What you need to know about the role:PayPal’s Merchant Onboarding team plays a crucial role in PayPal's two-sided network, helping to enable seamless onboarding experiences for a variety of merchants—ranging from small businesses to large enterprises. As a Senior Software Engineer in this team, you will be working to develop and optimize the backend systems that facilitate business account creation, user experience upgrades, API integrations, and integration with core platform components. Your work will help provide key solutions across a wide array of merchant segments and enable our customers to access relevant products and capabilities to grow their businesses.

Your day to day:
In your day-to-day role you will
Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services that power PayPal's Merchant Onboarding platform.Develop APIs and integrations to support business account creation, upgrades from consumer to business accounts, and merchant product provisioning.Integrate core platform components such customer growth platform, risk, compliance, identity, and legal services into the Merchant Onboarding flow.Work with other teams to ensure seamless orchestration of backend services and APIs, enabling a frictionless experience for merchants.Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code, and ensure the quality of your code through testing and peer reviews.Troubleshoot and resolve backend issues, ensuring high availability and performance of merchant onboarding systems.Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, front-end engineers, and platform engineering, to align on business requirements and technical solutions.Optimize backend systems for performance, scalability, and security, particularly for high-traffic merchant onboarding processes.Ensure compliance with risk, legal, and regulatory requirements in the development and deployment of backend services.Continuously monitor and improve backend performance using metrics and insights from PayPal monitoring toolsWhat do you need to bring-
5+ years of backend development experience. Strong experience with Java 17 and Spring Boot for building backend services.Experience with Jenkins for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.Proficiency in Oracle and JPA (Java Persistence API) for database management and integration.Familiarity with RESTful APIs and SOAP for integrating backend systems and services.Experience with Message Queues and building scalable, event-driven systems.Knowledge of Spring Batch for handling batch processing in backend systems.Familiarity with unit and integration testing using JUnit, TestNG, and Spring Tests.Experience with Git for version control and collaborative developmentStrong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot and optimize backend systems for performance.Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams.Experience with microservices architecture and related tools/technologiesFamiliarity with agile software development methodologies**We know the confidence gap and imposter syndrome can get in the way of meeting spectacular candidates.
