Senior Engineer – Steering Systems

That is why our R&D group has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer – Steering Systems at INTERNATIONAL World Headquarters in Lisle, IL. This position will work in Chassis Engineering as part of Steering Systems, which is accountable for design activities and system ownership for product development across all our commercial vehicles. Steering covers the design and integration of multiple components, like the steering gear, linkage, pump, column, among others. It has cross-functional interaction with other systems, such as Suspensions, Axles, Brakes, Wheels and Tires. As a group, it is a key contributor for the implementation of new technologies, like electrification and autonomous vehicles. Responsibilities Lead activities for engineering projects of new product development that involve steering systems, meeting our goals for delivery on time, quality, and cost. Develop solutions to technical challenges while maintaining the integrity of the product. Clearly communicate recommendations, opportunities, and risks to cross-functional teams, design responsible engineers and suppliers. Coordinate design trade-offs between functional engineering groups to achieve steering systems objectives/requirements. Implement engineering changes by releasing new designs to production, using CAD tools and creating Bills Of Materials (BOMs) for large assemblies. Creates technical documentation, such as system and component Design Requirement Documents (DRDs), boundary diagrams, DFMEA, P-Diagrams, DVP&R, among others. Follows problem-solving methodologies for root cause analysis and implementation of ICA and PCA for engineering issues. Create product build books for manufacturing and service. May provide direction and guidance to less experienced team members. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science At least 2 years of experience in product design/development and/or computer science experience OR Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science Additional Requirements Qualified candidates, excluding current International Motors employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. International Motors does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status) Desired Skills Expertise in truck and/or automotive design and development process. Experience in release process of design and engineering changes for parts, assemblies, BOMs. Experience in CAD 3D modeling and drawing release in NX/Team Center. Experience developing parts using structural and mechanical design, hydraulics and kinematics analysis. Knowledge of GD&T and Tolerance Stack-Up Analysis. Understanding of manufacturing processes such as metal forming, stamping, casting. Experience in problem solving tools such as 8D, Six-sigma, Lean. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience with formal presentations. Creation and execution of DFMEAs, DRDs and DVPs.
