ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Heat Transfer and Heat Pipe Analysis: Demonstrate an intimate understanding of conduction, convection and radiation heat transfer as well as demonstrating an in-depth understanding of heat pipe operation and performance prediction.

Solid Modeling: Average to proficient at designing products with an approved solid modeling program and creating properly dimensioned drawings to geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) standards (ANSI/ASME Y14.5M-1994).

CFD Analysis: Average to proficient at CFD analysis using one or more approved programs such as Flotherm or Icepak.

Technical Writing and Reporting: Skilled at independently writing technical reports, proposals, journal papers, and technical articles. Possessing good writing and presentation skills is essential at this level.

Presentation Skills: Possessing good presentation skills is essential at this level.

Sales Support: Supports sales through proposal writing, conducting analysis, and generating solutions to customer’s requirements, preparing datasheets, customer visits and preparing cost/bid support information.

“Hands On” related duties (Minimum of 25% of time): Most of Boyd’s engineering project work involves the design, fabrication and testing of complex prototype hardware. As a result, Boyd encourages “Hands-on” engineering activity. As a result, the engineer will plan and direct technicians or other engineering staff in conducting laboratory work and experiments. This work may involve conducting complex thermal related experiments to test, prove, or modify theoretical propositions on the basis of research findings and experiences of other researchers in related technological areas.

Inventiveness: Evaluates research findings to develop new concepts, products, equipment, or processes and develops new uses for these applications or findings.

Project Management:

9.1 Delivery Schedules: Ensures that customer deliveries are met on time. Deliverables include hardware, reports, technical data, proposals, etc. If dates are in jeopardy of falling behind (i.e. not On-Time), notifies Sr. Management immediately to ensure resources are properly applied to the project to restore or minimize the impact on the schedule.

9.2 Quality: Ensures prototype/pre-production units fabricated under their control meet customer and Boyd quality specifications/expectations. This should be coordinated with Boyd’s Quality Department.

9.3 Customer Communication: Ensures that the customer is notified of any technical or delivery changes/problems immediately upon discovery. Any communication to the customer shall be coordinated with the proper sales person.

9.4 Financial: Responsible for ensuring each project they are personally responsible for meets the targeted cost budget.

9.5 Intellectual Property: Actively maintains control of company related intellectual property, trade secrets and patents. Assures that all new inventions are documented in an Invention Disclosure Information, IDI Form and submitted to the patent committee.
