Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Production Engineering – Battery Manufacturing Engineering department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Sr Engineer to work in the Battery Cell Planning group.

The primary responsibility of this position is to investigate/study, propose, implement changes to the TBMNC site, manufacturing lines and equipment to support battery line introduction as well as battery product life cycle changes and or new introductions.

This position will be located at PEMC in Georgetown, Kentucky and report to the Engineering Manager for Battery Cell Planning.

What you’ll be doing

Develop process plans for battery production lines within the Battery Manufacturing Engineering group with direct support from Manager

Develop building layout concepts, manufacturing line concepts

Utilize enterprise strategy data to develop manufacturing lines based on volumes and product battery types required to meet vehicle SOP dates.

Directly support other engineers or technicians through mentorship

Lead the schedule planning, cost planning, budget creation, machine specification, building layout and process development to support the launch of battery lines.

Drive innovation through benchmark and study of trends in the Battery Industry

Participate in cross functional working groups across the local facility and corporate departments to achieve project goals

Develop and nemawashi standardization methods and roll out initiatives via Strategy & Shikumi documents

Engage in technical discussions and RJ development activities for battery

Take initiative to grow your knowledge of battery cell and module and all associated processes

Gather and Develop necessary data & information in order to meet permit application requirements for building & environmental teams

Work closely with implementation teams to continuously reflect on methods, process, and equipment in order to improve planning, product, and layout for future lines

Participate in a mentor program to grow as an engineer and learn from others within the department

Engage in travel (or dispatch) to U.S., Canada and/or Mexico NAMCs (North American Manufacturing Centers) and suppliers, as well as foreign travel including Japan, Canada, Mexico. 

What you bring

Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Engineering or similar technical field or 10+ years of equivalent experience in manufacturing

Experience in Production Preparation or Manufacturing with experience in execution of capital projects, preferably from initial planning to start of production.

Experience in creating and implementing processes in a manufacturing

Experience managing large capital projects over $2M, including creating and maintaining schedules, as well as tracking milestones from project creation to completion.

Understanding of GD&T (Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerance) & ability to read and interpret 2D drawings

Strong knowledge of equipment utilities and experience from planning to implementation in the field

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)

Ability for business travel, both domestic and international, up to 25%

Ability to work weekend and shutdown work (such as July and December holidays) as needed

Added bonus if you have

Advanced degree, such as MS in Engineering or an MBA

Toyota Production Engineering experience

AutoCAD, or similar 2D drafting software experience

Green field experience/Brown field experience

MIFC (Material and Information Flow Chart) experience and part lead time mapping

PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) experience, including the ability to investigate and troubleshoot

Experience and/or exposure to battery manufacturing process

TBP(Toyota Business Process) completion through Panel
