Senior Engineer - Hardware
**EchoStar** has an exciting opportunity for a **Sr Phased Array** **Antenna Engineer** in our **Hughes Network Systems** division for our office in **Gaithersburg, MD** . This is an exciting position where the candidate will be involved in design and testing of state-of-the-art RF and antenna technology for next generation LEO/MEO/GEO satellite communication systems for fixed and mobile applications. **Responsibilities:** + Analyze system requirements and derive antenna and RF sub-system requirements + As member of antenna design team, conduct detailed design of low-cost radiating elements that work over wide bandwidths and wide scan angles in Ku and Ka bands + Conduct extensive simulations of the design to predict performance in the field + Actively work with mechanical and CAD teams and board manufacturers to get a protype built based on selected design + Develop test plans and generate detailed test procedures for RF and phased array antenna subsystems. + Conduct near field and far field measurements, collect results, analyze and present to internal teams and customers, when needed + Analyze RF chain requirements for a user terminal based on phased arrays + Interface with factory teams to provide antenna test fixture related inputs + Interface with vendors and suppliers on the selection of test equipment for the antenna lab **Basic Requirements:** + MSEE in electrical engineering with emphasis on antenna and RF/microwave engineering + Solid understanding of advanced electromagnetics, antennas, polarizers and radomes + 10+ years of phased array design and testing experience in Ku and Ka bands + 5+ years of experience with test equipment like vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, noise figure meters, power meters etc. + 5+ years of experience making antenna pattern measurements including active element patterns, gain, G/T, beam-width, sidelobe levels, co and cross polarization levels, Axial Ratio, Return loss, Insertion Loss, coupling factors. + 7+ years of experience with simulation tools such as HFSS, CST, ADS and MATLAB **Preferred Qualifications:** + PhD in electrical engineering with emphasis on antenna and RF/microwave engineering + Familiarity with a wide variety of RF printed circuit technologies including stripline, microstrip, CoPlanar Waveguide. + Familiarity with high density PC Board interconnect methods including micro-via, blind and buried via, in RF and microwave environments. + Familiarity with cavity resonance issues of enclosed antenna structures + Knowledgeable about electronic beam forming, beam steering and array synthesis. The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level and competencies. Candidates need to successfully complete a pre-employment screen, which may include a drug test and DMV check.
