About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Our Lihir operations Mine Technical Services Team is recruiting for the position of Senior Engineer - Mine Planning for a FIFO role based onsite.
Reporting directly to the Superintendent - Mine Production Planning & Engineering, the incumbent will be responsible to ensure mine plans and weekly schedules align with the monthly plans, budget, and forecast by providing clear directions to responsible subordinates through workshops and meetings.
The role will have responsibility to:
Actively participate in safety discussions, action management, and CCV engagement.Ensure designs are safe for execution and schedules/sequences are practical and safe to execute.Ensure QA&QC is conducted promptly to address any non-compliances in pit, road, and dump development.Provide timely and accurate daily, weekly, and monthly reports.Contribute to Mine Performance meetings to understand and develop recovery plans for safe delivery.Participate in all continuous improvement projects across the department, utilizing the Full Potential Program process as needed.Support the mine operations department in achieving personnel development and succession plans.Provide discipline, guidance, assistance, and technical support to the Mine Supervision team.Offer regular individual performance feedback, guidance, and direction, and develop and agree on improvement plans.Address personnel issues as they arise.Set and coordinate daily and weekly activities in line with the Lihir Mine Plan.Review, monitor, and approve relevant work processes.Training & Experience
Ideally, our preferred applicant will have;
A relevant qualification of a Bachelor's Degree in Mine Engineering.Membership with IEPNG (Institution of Engineers Papua New Guinea). A minimum of 5 years' experience in mining operations as a practicing engineer, with comprehensive exposure to all operational aspects, preferably within a world-class open cut mine.Extensive knowledge of all mining safety and operational areas, including drill and blast, and their impact on the load and haul process.Class 6 PNG Driver's License.Proven excellence in engineering and technical acumen.Sound Knowledge of Modular Mining systems – Data AnalysisAbility to demonstrate patience and foster effective communication, teamwork, and cooperation.Capability and motivation to engage a multinational team in a technically challenging and geographically remote environment.Highly developed interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills in English.
The Requirement
Must be available for FIFO to LihirAbility to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
