About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Our Lihir operations Mine Technical Services Team is recruiting for the position of Senior Engineer Mine Production for a FIFO role based onsite.
Reporting directly to the Superintendent – Mine Production Planning & Engineering, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring the safe and timely achievement of ore/waste production targets, maintaining compliance with pit and dump design via QA/QC, supporting plan execution with the Production Supervision and Mine Planning teams, contributing to 24-hour and weekly mine plans, and liaising with mill processing, maintenance, and technical teams for effective & safe mining operations.
The role will have responsibility to:
Ensure personal and team compliance with all HSE requirements and policies, including Fitness for Work; complete HSE tasks only when hazards and potential consequences are understood, and corrections are approved by the Supervisor; and align with Newmont Safety Standards.Collaborate effectively within a diverse team.Consistently deliver on commitments and take responsibility for personal development.Assist the Production Superintendent and section supervisors in training and developing junior staff by providing direction, guidance, recommendations, and feedback.Optimize crusher/mill feed processes as needed.Ensure that mine planning processes and plans incorporate mine production operational requirements.Align weekly plans with the MIP and quarterly budget to achieve desired results.Ensure that equipment and production processes operate safely and cost-effectively.Evaluate production equipment to ensure maximum efficiency.Design, implement, and refine processes and systems for products and services.Collaborate closely with and oversee technicians to resolve machinery issues.Ensure project deadlines are met.Compare different materials to find the optimal balance of quality, quantity, and cost.Actively lead Work Smart meetings and facilitate productive discussions with all mine operations teams.Actively seek cost reduction opportunities and report any cost wastage within the designated area.Participate in Business Improvement Projects (Full Potential Program).Training & Experience
Ideally, our preferred applicant will have;
A relevant qualification of a Bachelor's Degree in Mine Engineering.Membership with IEPNG (Institution of Engineers Papua New Guinea).Minimum of 5 years' experience in mining operations as a practicing engineer, with comprehensive exposure to all operational aspects, preferably within a world-class open-cut mine.In-depth knowledge of mining safety and operations, including drill & blast, and their impact on the load and haul process.Proven excellence in engineering and technical acumen.Patience and ability to foster communication, teamwork, and cooperation.Capability and motivation to engage a multinational team in a technically challenging and geographically remote environment.Class 6 Driving License Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills in English.
The Requirement
Must be available for FIFO to LihirAbility to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
