Are you passionate about System Design and Innovation? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Technology Breakthrough and Innovation team. As a Senior Engineer-Physics, you’ll be crucial in ensuring continued innovation and supporting our diverse team.
The Technology & Breakthrough Innovation (T&BI) team drives the creation of new product solutions for S&C's customers by exploiting new technologies and enabling breakthrough product development for the fast-evolving, intelligent power grid. This role supports the development and production of Vacuum Interrupter technologies using specialized prototyping and testing laboratories that lead to new S&C breakthrough products. As an experienced senior engineer in plasma physics, you will have the opportunity to design and test devices that interrupt powerful short-circuits, collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to design and execute robust experimental test programs, and analyze datasets to optimize practical designs that can be implemented in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Actively collaborating with a team that conceptualizes, designs, prototypes and tests unique interrupters that meet required switchgear specifications and relevant industry standards.Designing and executing experimental test programs to build foundational knowledge about vacuum interrupter physics and drive toward design optimization.Establishing R&D objectives, experimental methods and analytical techniques necessary to achieve the interrupter performance that will open new market segments.Proposing novel design elements that have the potential for IP protection. Support ongoing production of vacuum interrupters by providing first principles input to the sustaining engineering team members. Pursuing assignments with a “can do” attitude and sense of urgency.What you’ll Need To Succeed:
Job Requirements (To select this job at a minimum you must have the following):
MS or higher in experimental physics with 5 years’ experience. Ph. D. with post-doctoral or industrial experience is preferred.Hands-on experience with plasma diagnostics and spectroscopy.Strong capability with advanced software and programming to support plasma experiments, including data acquisition, post-processing and connecting parallel data streams to create a complete empirical representation of the test objects.Experience with high voltage equipment or electrical breakdown a plus.An aptitude for physical design and a track record of innovation in new product development or researchDemonstrated track record of collaborating in a multi-disciplinary R&D team and mentoring junior engineersRelevant work experience: Five plus years applying plasma physics principles to experimental research programs to characterize plasma behavior and its interaction with the surrounding components. Education including PhD can be considered if they hold lower than above required tenure.
