Senior Software Test Engineers work with dedicated product teams to ensure that our products deliver against our customers’ unmet needs. They function as ambassadors of quality within the team and lead by example in instilling a testing mindset to improve overall quality and team velocity. They are responsible for ensuring our software functions the way it is intended by creating automated testing plans and strategy, creating/coaching software engineers/Associate Software Test Engineers/Software Test Engineers to create various forms of automated testing, execute tests and solve complex issues. They work side by side with software engineers to improve overall software quality and recommend opportunities for improvement. About the team: At Paylocity, we’re taking our Centralized Calendar to the next level with powerful new features—integrating time-off management, seamless syncing with enterprise calendars, and customizable calendar creation for admins and teams. These enhancements will simplify scheduling, improve coordination, and create a smoother experience for all users. As a Senior Software Test Engineer on the Calendar Team, you’ll play a key role in ensuring these features work flawlessly. You’ll help expand and refine our automated test suites, ensuring the Calendar platform remains stable as it evolves. You’ll also validate complex integrations—such as time-off, scheduling, and celebrations—to ensure seamless syncing across systems. Additionally, you’ll enhance our Performance & Load Testing suite to assess system stability, especially for large organizations managing intricate schedules. Who you are: + Enthusiastic about developing the best software available and providing the ultimate customer experience + An advocate for continuous improvement of our software development process + Interested in staying current by applying new technologies + Able to work in a collaborative environment with a willingness to share your ideas + Able to work independently on modules and complete tasks with high quality and contribute to high velocity, but unafraid to seek out suggestions from other team members + Excited to work on cutting-edge technology During the first six months you will: + Understand customer needs and business goals + Often acts as the test lead for features or epics + Be adept at creating, executing, and supervising highly complex test plans for large-scale development projects while collaborating with Product owners/analysts/managers and other Engineers. + Analyze Production issues and regression bugs to identify and implement preventative measures + Design cleanly coded, comprehensive test automation framework for their team or product area + Consider future testing needs when designing test automation + Work with developers to create test harnesses that will enable test automation for hard-to-test features + Understand and consider technical dependencies when creating test strategies + Provide feedback via decision-making frameworks for proposed changes from across the organization + Work within the scope of a team and participates in cross-team testing collaboration + Utilize, extend and create new automated testing frameworks including load testing/performance testing + Identify opportunities for test architecture and implementation that can be reused by multiple teams + When needed, perform exploratory testing on the product to understand its testing challenges + Create and mentor/coach software engineers/ASTEs/STEs to create various forms of automated testing (of high complexity) and help team identify and use appropriate methods of testing. + Understand how to use security testing tools to find gaps in security coverage + Solve complex testing issues + Monitor state of quality, raising awareness and resolution of gaps in quality + Drive the team and organization toward implementing Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipeline, where needed. Identify and implement improvements for existing Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipelines. + Regularly contribute to and at times present at Community of Practice sessions, and contribute to Paved Roads when appropriate. Required Experience: + Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent with 4+ years of experience. + Demonstrated experience building automated testing frameworks from scratch using frameworks such as Cypress, Playwright etc + Experience with performance testing using tools such as JMeter, Artillery and Locust + Demonstrated experience working with an object oriented language (preferably C#) + Demonstrated experience working with client-side web technologies (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) + Demonstrated experience testing APIs and deep understanding of API best practices + Experience writing SQL/NOSQL queries including joins + Experience testing consumer facing web applications + AWS experience is a plus + Deep knowledge of software testing best practices in an agile environment + Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery integrations or tooling + Must be adaptable to change and have a willingness to learn + Must have a strong sense of curiosity + Must commit to their role and take responsibility for their tasks + Must be able to work effectively in an agile and team environment + Must be effective and creative in problem solving Paylocity is an equal-opportunity employer.
