About the business unit  

The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally. 

 

Overview of role 

We are looking for a Senior Environmental Consultant to join our international Environment & Social team. The role would be based in Bogota, Colombia.
Our Environment & Social team works in an integrated manner with engineering teams on infrastructure projects. The focus is primarily in the energy sector, but we also work on other types of internationally financed infrastructure projects. The successful applicant will engage with multidisciplinary project design teams, leading environmental assessments to develop and deliver sustainable projects. 
The work of our team and this position primarily covers:
•    Undertaking environmental advisory services such as due diligence and monitoring on infrastructure projects
•    Performing environmental supervision, compliance monitoring and auditing services against international standards such as IFC and Equator Principles for projects in construction and operation
•    Development and review of environmental management plans and action plans
•    Environmental and biodiversity risks and impacts assessment across a range of power technologies including wind, solar and hydropower.
•    Supporting the delivery of environmental assessments, planning applications and other environmental documents as required
•    Environmental and Social Impact Assessment
•    Coordination of technical input from multidisciplinary environmental specialists
•    Supporting junior staff members in their work
•    Managing proposals and projects

Our clients include project developers, international lenders including multilateral development and private banks, and governments. The team works mainly on international projects and international travel is an integral part of this role. Our core project areas include South America, Europe and Africa.

 

Candidate Specification

We welcome applications from consultants with the following experience:
Essential:
•    Bachelor’s Degree in a discipline related to environmental engineering, biology, ecology or equivalent
•    Demonstrable experience and knowledge of IFC and other lender safeguards standards and their role in project finance processes and cycles
•    Demonstrable experience and knowledge of applying the main international lender policy and guidance on biodiversity and nature conservation and critical habitats (in particular IFC Performance Standard 6)

•    Demonstrable experience and knowledge of managing small projects and proposals
•    fluency in Spanish English, excellent communication and report writing skills
Desirable:
•    Post-graduate degree in a discipline related to environmental studies, biology, ecology or equivalent
•    Experience and demotrable knowledge of undertaking ESIAs, due diligence and construction/operation monitoring
•    Experience in designing and undertaking biodiversity survey/monitoring and analysing and interpreting data

•    Experience in undertaking biodiversity assessments and plans (i.e. critical habitat, biodiversity action) and ESIA for projects funded by International Financial Institutions
•    Experience in the regions/countries mentioned above, and/or ability to work in the languages spoken in those locations
•    Experience in the energy sector
