As a Senior Environmental Planner, you’ll use your skills and experience to support regulatory compliance, permitting and environmental documentation at the Federal, state, and local levels primarily in Colorado and other Western states. You’ll support a variety of transportation (including transit and trails), water, renewable energy, and utility projects. As a Senior Environmental Planner with us, you’ll have the opportunity to play a role in all stages of the environmental planning process, including performing alternatives analyses, researching, and writing technical reports for NEPA and SEPA documents, preparing permit applications, and participating in public involvement processes. You will have opportunities to contribute, grow and learn while serving as a key member within the Mountain West Central department, consisting of highly skilled environmental engineers, planners, landscape architects, arborists, architectural historians, archaeologists, biologists, and environmental compliance professionals. Technical/Functional Responsibilities: * Collect environmental, social and/or economic data to be used in developing alternatives to study under NEPA and in assessing impacts. * Lead processes of scoping, developing purpose and need, developing alternatives and preparing documents in compliance with NEPA. * Prepare and/or contribute to NEPA documents, including Categorical Exclusions (CEs), Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs). * Provide quality control reviews. * Perform various aspects of environmental planning assignments, applying knowledge of environmental planning principles. Work independently, participate in setting assignment objectives, schedules, budgets, and deadlines. Work collaboratively with other team members. * May provide technical guidance to less experienced personnel. * Collaborative team approach internally and externally; contact with clients and public and regulatory agencies. * Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Geography, Biology, Ecology, Landscape Architecture, or a related field * At least 10 years of experience in researching/writing NEPA documents and regulatory permitting processes * Direct experience with associated environmental regulations/laws, regulatory and land management agency requirements, environmental compliance processes for public infrastructure (transportation and water) projects, and experience working with local, state and federal agencies and public utilities * Excellent technical writing, organizational, and verbal communication skills * Experience with fast-paced projects and formal quality control procedures * Knowledge of and experience with environmental requirements and processes of state and federal regulatory and land management agencies * Experience conducting research, preparing technical reports, synthesizing data, and preparing environmental documents. * Experience interacting with clients to communicate findings and develop environmental process strategies. Experience representing clients on project teams and in agency-to-agency coordination. * Experience in public and agency participation, meetings, and scoping processes * Experience in managing project budgets, coordinating accounting and invoicing activities, and monthly project status reviews Ideally, you'll also have: * Experience working with the Colorado Department of Transportation (and other Departments of Transportation preferably located in the west); Central and Western Federal Lands Highway Divisions; and land management agencies such as the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, US Forest Service, US Army Corps of Engineers, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation, and other state and federal agencies * Extensive knowledge and experience working with one or more of the following environmental disciplines as part of a transportation or water project: air quality, water quality, floodplains, wetlands, land use, Section 4(f)/6(f), noise, visual, hazardous materials, cultural resources, recreation, and other disciplines * Understanding and experience with business development, marketing, and sales within the transportation and water industries Jacobs is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
