General Responsibilities:

We are looking for an experienced Senior Environmental Scientist to join our dynamic team! Terracon Senior Environmental Scientists serve as lead preparers of environmental studies and reports and identify and evaluate environmental planning strategies/designs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. The position involves assessing risks and constraints and making well-supported recommendations to assist clients with project planning and environmental compliance. Other responsibilities include managing the preparation of proposals, reports and regulatory agency correspondence. Some supervisory, marketing and client development duties are included.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.Be responsible for maintaining Terracon’s established quality standards on all projects.Senior scientific professional responsible for quality control and assurance of data gathering procedures and data analysis. Serve as a company subject matter expert for NEPA and wetland delineation and permitting projects.Conduct pre-mobilization planning meetings with field staff to ensure all participants execute tasks safely and in accordance with Terracon’s rules and practices. Plan and staff field studies related to wetland and watercourse delineation, stream assessments, and wildlife studies.Analyze and synthesize data from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, and aerial photographs to evaluate, plan and permit projects.Ensure the preparation of concise and accurate written reports.Draft written scopes, schedules and budgets for medium to complex project proposals. Communicate clearly and concisely with Terracon leadership, staff and clients regarding technical and procedural issues.The position requires occasional travel and working/traveling outside of standard office hours and days.Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, Biology, Geography, Geology or related natural science field and a minimum 10 years of related experience.Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.Preferred Certification:Wetland Delineation according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers methods.Professional Wetland Scientist Project Management Professional or equivalentPreferred Experience:At least 5 years of Project Management experience in environmental planningAt least 5 years of field experience with wetland delineations, stream assessments, habitat and species assessmentsAt least 5 years of related experience with permitting pursuant to Section 404 of the Clean Water ActPreparation of Categorical Exclusions and Environmental Assessments in accordance with NEPA as a Lead PreparerExcellent written and verbal communication skills Intermediate to advanced understanding of Section 404 CWA, Section 7 ESA and Section 106 NHPA consultations
