No If Temporary, enter End Date: Position Summary The Senior Counselor of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) focuses on the retention, high achievement, and graduation of EOP students by providing counseling, academic support, and social guidance for students. The Senior Counselor adheres to EOP best practices, including individual and frequent interaction with students and ensures that tutoring needs are met both in the academic year and during the Summer Institute.

Experience Cortland dives deep into the region’s offerings Major Responsibilities Academic Counseling: 40% Provide counseling and advising services to program students, which may include personal and career counseling and advising regarding academic policies, processes, and procedures pertaining to financial aid, course withdrawal, leaves of absence, change of major, and transfer Liaise with relevant academic and support departments, and the Student Government Association (SGA) and student groups in order to build and maintain relationships beneficial in supporting EOP students’ needs Maintain frequent contact with students, often weekly, to ensure EOP supportive services such as tutoring, advising, and counseling, as well as campus wide supportive services are being appropriately and effectively offered to and utilized by students. Actively manage caseloads to ensure students are receiving services on a regular basis. Maintain clear and accurate records of meetings with students Deliver the fall EOP COR 101 course and co-teach the Summer Institute pre-Cor 101 Serve as the lead to help students with finding and applying for scholarships

Tutoring: 20% Provide assistance with the hiring and training of tutors which includes providing input regarding identifying prospective tutors Create the tutors’ schedule for the academic year and the Summer Institute Program Administration: 35% Assist with the Summer Institute food procurement by submitting the USDA grant, and collaborate with Cortland Auxiliary Services (CAS) on the meal plan that is offered Assist students with applying for internships and provide them with guidance throughout the process Assess students’ well-being and academic performance and identify those in need of the probation program Represent the program positively to the University, relevant government bodies, the public and prospective students Professional Service and Development: 5% Serve on campus committees and/or community-based organizations as appropriate to position Stay well-informed of trends and best practices by attending conferences, reading publications, and networking with professional colleagues
Functional and Supervisory Relationships Reports to the Assistant Director of the Educational Opportunity Program Work closely with other departments including Financial Aid, Care and Outreach Services, Disability Resources, Counseling and Wellness Services, and the Campus Police, support services, and academics ensuring the students are fully aware of these services and are utilizing them


Required Qualifications Master’s degree Human Services experience such as working in community, residential care, or institutional settings providing direct services such as leading a group, organizing an activity, or offering individual counseling


Preferred Qualifications A master’s degree in Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, Educational Administration, or a related area Experience working in an educational opportunity program Experience working in higher education
