Banyan Global is currently seeking a Senior Evaluation Expert Consultant to lead a real-time evaluation of two environmental projects focused on blue carbon ecosystems and climate-smart livelihoods in Indonesia. The Enabling Blue Carbon in Indonesia and Nature-based Solutions for Climate-Smart Livelihoods in Mangrove Landscapes (NASCLIM) projects aim to strengthen Indonesia’s policy frameworks for blue carbon ecosystems and mangrove conservation, while enhancing coastal livelihoods. Funded by Global Affairs Canada, these projects are managed by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).
Banyan Global will conduct a series of real-time evaluations of the two projects (1) Enabling Blue Carbon in Indonesia and (2) Nature-based Solution for Climate Smart Livelihood in Mangrove Landscapes (NASCLIM). It is envisaged that there will be four evaluative learning loops, conducted once a year between 2025 and 2028, with each learning loop spanning the two projects. These evaluations will be conducted annually over four years, providing actionable insights to improve project effectiveness and sustainability. Banyan Global is recruiting a Senior Evaluation Expert to lead the design, implementation, and analysis of these real-time evaluations, ensuring that findings inform project adaptations and decision-making. The evaluation is based in Indonesia and requires field visits, with some remote components. The position is open to both international and Indonesian candidates, with an estimated Level of Effort of 20 days per year (2025-2028).
Responsibilities Lead the design and implementation of real-time evaluations for both projects.Develop and refine key evaluation questions in collaboration with GGGI.Oversee qualitative and quantitative data collection methodologies.Conduct key informant interviews and focus group discussions with government officials, community stakeholders, and project partners.Facilitate in-person learning workshops in Indonesia to engage stakeholders in discussions on evaluation findings.Draft inception and final evaluation reports, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and actionable recommendations.Present findings and recommendations to GGGI, government partners, and project stakeholders.Ensure that evaluation processes incorporate gender equality, social inclusion, and ethical research practices.Collaborate with the Mid-Level Technical Expert (Indonesia-based) to triangulate findings and strengthen evaluation credibility. Qualifications Education: Master’s degree or higher in Evaluation, Social Sciences, Environmental Studies, Public Policy, or related fields.Experience:At least 10 years of experience leading complex evaluations, particularly real-time, developmental, or formative evaluations.Strong background in environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and natural resource management projects.Experience conducting evaluations for international donor-funded projects (GGGI, Global Affairs Canada, USAID, or similar organizations).Familiarity with Indonesia’s policy and environmental landscape is preferred for international candidates and required for Indonesian candidates.Skills:Expertise in evaluation methodologies, including mixed methods research, participatory approaches, and real-time learning.Strong facilitation skills and ability to synthesize complex information into clear findings.Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with a proven track record of writing high-quality reports.Ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, international donors, and local communities.Language Requirements:Fluency in English required, working proficiency in Bahasa a plus.Other:Must be available to travel to Indonesia for at least two weeks per learning loop for fieldwork and stakeholder engagement.How to Apply
