Position Overview

The Senior Facilities Engineer will act as a subject matter expert and lead collaboration efforts with internal experts and external partners. This role will provide hands-on engineering support and document changes to existing and new qualified and non-qualified facilities systems in support of infrastructure and production. The Senior Facilities Engineer will lead design that requires exposure to multiple disciplines and act as a system administrator for building automation systems; including, but not limited to, maintaining settings, sequences, alarm management, and developing improvement opportunities. This position will guide system design by quantifying requirements, calculating required capacities, reviewing drawings, and working with third-party designers.

This role is based out of our Madison, WI office location. For applicants not local to Madison, WI area, relocation assistance will be provided.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

Provide engineering support to existing and new qualified and non-qualified building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, and production support utilities.Create statements of work, perform engineering calculations to size equipment, solicit and evaluate vendor proposals, manage the procurement and contract process, and oversee technical aspects of installations or modifications to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, building automation, and fire-protection systems based on stakeholder input and in collaboration with internal and external partners.Perform engineering calculations to troubleshoot system operation and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and performance.Maintain building automation systems to ensure performance continually meets environmental requirements and root-cause analysis results in the elimination of system-driven excursions; manage the system to provide meaningful warning of system or equipment failure and eliminate nuisance alarms.Monitor building systems operation for energy usage, suggest improvement opportunities, and implement as approved.Develop and maintain documentation necessary to ensure consistent, high-quality projects; including, but not limited to, record drawings, standard operating procedures, user requirements, design specifications, component specifications and selection, and commissioning protocols.Manage building commissioning; design commissioning plans, self-perform the work, and contract with and manage third-party vendors for larger projects.Process revision changes on existing qualified systems following change control requirements; write and manage change requests and change orders for facilities systems.Participate in and/or lead meetings and routinely represent facilities engineering in project meetings and occasionally in leadership meetings.Act as a resource, mentor, and train facilities personnel on building systems operation and troubleshooting.Lead or participate in investigations and troubleshooting associated with internal review, Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), audits, or complaints.Prioritize, plan, and drive projects to completion through disciplined project management methodology and tools.Lead technical projects and larger, more complex cross functional initiatives with minimal guidance from leadership.Exercise strong ability to self-identify, develop a high-level implementation plan for, and execute projects associated with process efficiencies/cost savings opportunities in and outside of the facilities engineering setting.Apply engineering practices knowledge and skills to perform a wide variety of standard and nonstandard activities.Apply effective technical writing skills.Apply excellent oral and written communication skills.Apply excellent interpersonal skills.Display a detail-oriented manner of working with superior organization skills.Exercise the ability to work effectively in project team situations, as well as work independently.Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.Support and comply with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.Maintain regular and reliable attendance.Ability to act with an inclusion mindset and model these behaviors for the organization.Ability to work designated schedule.Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.Ability to lift up to 50 pounds for approximately 5% of a typical working day.Ability to work seated for approximately 50% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.Ability to climb ladders and effectively access equipment and areas of buildings that include traversing unlevel surfaces and entering hot, cold, dirty, dusty, and loud environments.Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.Ability and means to travel between Madison locations.Ability to travel 5% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or field as outlined in the essential duties.6+ years of experience in an engineering role designing, commissioning, or optimizing facility systems; including, but not limited to, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire, and refrigeration.1+ years of experience mentoring and coaching other engineers on technical aspects of facility systems.Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and independent thought.Proven ability to review designs or systems and provide valuable feedback to design teams, vendors, or maintenance teams to ensure systems are built and operated in an efficient, reliable, and maintainable way while balancing first cost and operational cost.Demonstrated proficiency of control systems design, administration, and best engineering practices.Proficient in Microsoft Office; including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Planner.Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in an FDA, CLIA, or CAP regulated industry.Professional Engineer.Experience interfacing with various regulatory agencies and code officials.Experience with building automation software (BAS); including, but not limited to, Automated Logic and EcoStruxure.#LI-VZ1

Salary Range:

$85,000.00 - $135,000.00

 

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible, and is eligible to receive company stock upon hire as well as annually.
