A senior financial analyst in ITS performs a hybrid of complex finance work, encompassing a range of functions including budgeting, accounting, financial analysis, and rate development and analysis. Senior ITS finance analysts will also run what-if scenarios and analyze complex data sets using more advanced tools such as Power BI, AI, and advanced Excel. On a monthly basis, ITS finance analysts will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing both detailed and summary-level monthly financial reports, tracking and monitoring positions, identifying trends across ITS, and creating/finding and recommending creative solutions to financial questions that arise in ITS. This position will also support as needed the annual budget submission process, and any budgeting, financial analysis, and accounting services needed within ITS.
Without supervisory guidance, this senior financial analyst will take on initiatives and thoughtfully and creatively analyze data and make recommendations; will interact with various levels of both inter- and intra-departmental management; receive general instructions and advice, but be able to grasp concepts and develop work product without supervision. The reports, spreadsheets, and analysis developed by this position will be reviewed by the team, including supervisor, and results are expected to be complete, clear, accurate, and timely.

Duties:
Performs budget analysis and accounting for assigned operating units, applying knowledge of cost accounting principles and budgeting practices, utilizing complex Excel spreadsheet models, Power BI, and/or AI. Conducts monthly analysis of expenses, comparing actual performance to budget on a monthly and annual basis. Resolves questionable items and anomalies. Provides fiscal oversight and management of budgets and billings, including analysis and reconciliation of expenses. Produces summary and detailed reports for units as needed. Supports annual budget development and monitoring. Be a prominent presence on new projects and work with team to develop creative, out-of-the-box solutions. Formulates, revises, and maintains billing rates in conformance with policy. Produces and updates multi-year financial plans. Provides advanced data collection, analysis and reporting as needed or requested. Utilizes data collection, analysis, and forecasting skills to compile and write ad hoc financial reports as needed or requested by ITS or other University offices. Serves as a resource to other staff in resolving fiscal issues.
Skills required:
Demonstrated analytical skills to think “outside of the box” when interpreting and reporting on budgetary, financial, and related management information. Advanced Excel, Power BI, and AI user who can illustrate, quantify, and analyze routine and complex financial data for reporting, comparing, and projecting. Skill in budget analysis and fiscal management. Excellent interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with persons at all levels of the organization. Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, especially with regards to sensitive or confidential personnel or organizational matters.
Systems required: Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to master ERP-wide system applications.
