Job Description

Reporting to the Finance Manager in MBPS, the role will support the Finance Controller of each Business Unit across the Asia Segment. Responsibilities include the following:

Operational Support

Review required intercompany journal entries for posting to GL.Follow-up with corresponding country Asia BU team on any pending approval of intercompany charges before preparing journal entry to be booked in GL.Ensure actual documents supporting journal entries are readily available.Review intercompany reconciliation reports.Handle stakeholder questions related to the journal entries posted.Provide timely, accurate and insightful expense commentary to stakeholders for business decisions and to drive expense accountability for the Asia functions.Support the Finance Manager in partnering with key stakeholders, including the Function Owner, to identify the spending trend and patterns, potential savings (SCM) / accrual needed and area of potential spending to align with and achieve regional and global strategic goals.Support the Finance Manager to ensure that intercompany allocation is appropriate, meets tax transfer pricing requirements, and is understood and accepted by stakeholders.Work with Finance Controller groups across business areas to build and define accounting models for new intercompany processes. This includes onboarding of new transactions to existing tools.Promote team efficiency and process effectiveness to improve the teams’ day-to-day operations.Ensure that controls are sufficiently designed, documented, and evidenced to satisfy risk, audit, and regulatory objectives.Ensure proper and complete elimination of intercompany transactions on Group level.Mitigate operational risks and ensure that issues are timely escalated and resolution is effective.Timely and effective preparation of KPI reports, business dashboards and other metrics as required by management as well as the Business Unit.Drive the sharing of best practices, fostering collaboration and innovation across the team.Provide guidance to junior team members.Actively share insights to develop, implement, maintain, and operationalize expense policies to ensure that an expense-conscious culture is embedded within Manulife Asia.

Special Projects

Special projects will arise from time to time require strong financial knowledge, analytical and organizational skills with an innovative mindset.  The role will participate in Asia regional priorities and strategic projects as assigned or other Adhoc activities as required by senior management pertaining to the introduction of new services, products, and processes.

Qualifications

University Business Degree and/or recognized accounting designation (CPA is preferred)5+ years of progressive financial accounting experienceStrong stakeholder management skills requiring persuasion and influencing, relationship building and negotiation skillExcellent analytical and problem-solving capabilitiesStrong technical accounting skillsPowerBI and database knowledge is an advantageSelf-starter, detail-oriented, willingness to take ownership and accountability of processesStrong oral/written communication skills required to interact with senior officers and representatives from other Divisions and functional departmentsHighly organized with an ability to work in a fast-paced, multi stakeholder environment and manage multiple prioritiesUnderstanding of Lawson or general finance systems / applications available in the market.Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Excel (i.e. mastery of excel formulas and pivot tables is a must).  Proficient in MS Office suite including Outlook, Word, Power Point, and Project.Overtime may be required to meet business deadlines.
