Senior Financial Analyst
Title: Senior Financial Analyst Location: Oakland CA 94612 Duration: 6 months Description : Under the direction of a department manager or Principal Financial Analyst, using considerable journey-level professional level financial analytical skills including the supervision of lower-level staff, performs difficult to complex professional level work in a variety of areas such as budget, finance, payroll, and treasury; makes recommendations on the basis of completed studies and analyses; and performs other related duties as required. Responsibilities : + Compares reported information with the general ledger. + Audits, analyzes, and reconciles accounts for assigned areas. + Makes necessary adjustments or corrections. + Reviews revenue, expenses, and balance sheet accounts. + Investigates discrepancies and informs the appropriate person about errors. + Ensures payroll entries match the general ledger. + Reviews inventory accounts. + Prepares monthly financial statements for the assigned area. + Develops spending projections. + Helps prepare technical summaries and memos for management and the Board. + Analyzes the general ledger and profit/loss. + Maintains indexes for the general ledger and accounting records. + Resolves report issues. + Prepares monthly closing schedules. + Suggests necessary corrections. + Compiles, analyzes, and reports financial data from monthly reports. + Audits payroll tax deposits. + Prepares quarterly and annual payroll tax returns and other related tax filings. + Monitors department budgets and prepares cost estimates. + Justifies costs and prepares detailed analytical reports. + Maintains records and files. + Develops financial forecasts and trend analysis. + Creates cost allocation models to assess the cost of bus routes. + Verifies monthly financial reports. + Ensures correct general ledger reporting and manual journal entries. + Maintains filing systems. + Monitors ledger filing. + Keeps in contact with district personnel and transit officials. + Builds good working relationships with coworkers, employees, and the public. + Analyzes financial and budget data to make recommendations. + Ensures proper authorization for documents, contracts, and regulations. + Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing. + Prepares computerized reports and spreadsheets. + Supervises clerical employees and provides direction to lower-level analysts. Minimum Qualifications : + Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, economics or business administration. + Experience: Three years progressively responsible professional experience in accounting, finance, budgeting, including three years’ experience in the development and use of financial or budgeting systems and reports, financial analysis, and other aspects of accounting. Desirable Qualifications : + Knowledge of principles and practices of complex financial reporting, accounting, payroll, auditing, and/or budgeting; computerized financial and/or payroll reporting systems and computer applications; principles and practices of statistical analysis with extensive knowledge of spreadsheet programs; District policies pertaining to accounting and financial reporting; principles and practices of governmental financial reporting requirements; budgeting and forecasting procedures and techniques; principles and practices of supervision.
