Job Title: Senior Financial Analyst

Job Description

An important component of this position is to support the financial reporting and audits of large- and small-scale capital projects with a current value of over $1 billion. The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for providing accurate information and representation of capital projects, including detailed analysis to ensure funding and expenditures align to the Board of Governors approved budgets and compliance with restrictions attached to the funding where required. The position will also ensure the accuracy of financial statements, developing capital reports and complex financial models for use in critical decision making. The Senior Financial Analyst consults senior level management to develop and implement new policies and continuously review procedures to enable effective financial management, reporting, and business processes throughout the portfolio.

ResponsibilitiesManage project life cycle reporting within Workday and provide business support to various programs by applying technical expertise, process management, and business acumen.Engage stakeholders at all levels to ensure adherence to capital policies and accurate reporting of capital projects within Board approved budget.Promote understanding of financial reports and processes to develop awareness of the impact of decisions on financial results and share this information through training across the campus community.Liaise with external stakeholders including Provincial government, other educational institutes, and related parties.Provide support for long-term capital and infrastructure planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy.Provide expert advice, guidance, and direction in preparation and analysis of financial statements, capital budget, and forecasts.Compile, review, and approve working papers prepared by other team members for year-end audit and interim testing on a timely basis.Coordinate the monthly, quarterly, and annual capital-related financial statements and management reporting process, ensuring reports are prepared accurately and within deadlines.Communicate key financial issues to the Finance Manager, CFR, and senior management to support strategic and operational decisions.Prepare financial statements, note disclosures, supporting schedules, analyses, and reconciliations related to capital projects to support statutory financial reporting requirements.Research and prepare accounting treatment memos on complex accounting issues and provide recommendations based on regulatory requirements of GAAP (Public Sector Accounting Standards or IFRS).Recommend improvements to existing processes to increase efficiency and accelerate the monthly/quarterly/annual close period.Monitor and evaluate internal controls for weaknesses and improvements, focusing on restricted funds.Play a critical role in leading and contributing to certain aspects of business or system process reengineering for current and new system projects and strategic initiatives as required.Implement process improvements and better tools to improve capital financial reporting within the Comptroller function and with critical stakeholders.Essential SkillsFull cycle accounting experience including year-end close, accruals, journal entries, forecasting, budgeting, and financial statements.Experience with capital asset budgeting/planning.Knowledge of GAAP, PSAS, and IFRS reporting standards.Experience with any large ERP systems (Workday, Oracle, SAP).Advanced Excel skills (v-lookups, pivot tables, power query, and sum ifs).Excellent written and spoken communication skills.Experience with working papers (audit prep), financial analysis, IFRS, and PSAS.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with Workday.Experience working in a crown, quasi-crown, public sector, or unionized environment.Experience in an audit firm.Government funding experience.Initiative to ask for help.Self-motivated, independent, and autonomous.High social EQ.Work Environment

This position requires working three days at the office, subject to manager preference and could be less or more. The work environment includes close collaboration with other Senior Financial Analysts, Financial Analysts, Project Managers, and finance directors in various faculties. Additionally, you will work with the Comptroller’s office, Infrastructure Development, Financial Operations, Treasury, the Provincial government, and external auditors. The working hours are Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM or 9 AM to 5 PM. The dress code is business casual.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $110000.00/hr.
