Senior Financial Officer, MIx + Job Number: 25021 + Functional Area: Grants Administration/Management + Department: School of Engineering + School Area: Engineering + Employment Type: Full-time Temporary (Hybrid) + Employment Category: Exempt + Visa Sponsorship Available: No + Schedule: Email a Friend Save Save Apply Now Posting Description SENIOR FINANCIAL OFFICER, MIT Mission Innovation X (MIx), to oversee the full scope of financial operations for MIx, a program focused on bridging commercial and defense innovation; responsibilities include comprehensive pre- and post-award sponsored research management (proposal development, budgeting, monthly projections, reconciliation, and closeout); to advise PIs, project leads, and staff on all aspects of research administration while ensuring compliance with MIT, sponsor, and federal policies; to lead special projects, executing change management strategies, and conducting strategic financial analyses in partnership with the Executive Director; and will recommend and implement financial systems, policy updates, and operational improvements. Job Requirements REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum five years’ experience in accounting or finance, including at least one year in a supervisory role; proficiency in budget development, financial reporting, and recordkeeping; strong analytical, forecasting, and problem-solving abilities; excellent attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; exceptional communication and customer service skills; proficiency with Excel and enterprise systems; and ability to work independently and collaboratively, exercise discretion, and learn new systems quickly. PREFERRED: experience with SAP, BrioQuery, Kuali Coeus, and Cognos; and financial experience in an academic research setting and MIT experience.
