Senior Financial Reporting Specialist I

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $80,000.00 and $125,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Overview

SMBC Nikko Securities America, Inc, a registered broker dealer, provides investment securities and other financial services to corporate and institutional clients, focusing on North America and Larin America. The Accounting team oversees financial reporting, regulatory reporting and management reporting functions. This position will be responsible for internal control functions such as balance sheet substantiation, internal controls, EUC governance, etc., while assisting the team with month end closing and regulatory reporting.

 

Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this position will be responsible for internal control functions. These functions include balance sheet substantiation, policy and procedure documentation, process and control documentation, and EUC workpaper documentation. This position will also be expected to assist the team in the month end close process. This position will be closely working with accounting teams from other affiliates and will also interact with other departments within Nikko America.

Responsibilities Perform monthly balance sheet substantiation process which includes reviewing GL account owner and risk assessment, reviewing reconciliations, and following up with account owners to ensure the timely completion of the process Perform End User Computing (EUC) workpaper review process which includes identifying EUCs, updating EUC inventory list, performing risks assessment, implementing controls and formulating EUC retirement plan Perform Accounting's Policy and Procedures update process which includes maintaining inventory of procedures, following up with procedure owners for timely completion of procedural updates, and providing comments on procedural updates prepared by owners Facilitate internal control review process which includes reviewing Risk and Control Matrices, providing evidence for internal control testing, and as applicable, implementing controls to comply with Bank Holding Company's internal control requirement for Accounting functions Perform allocated month end tasks which may include posting journal entries and updating account reconciliations Prepare support workpapers for monthly regulatory reporting Prepare, as needed, daily reconciliations and assist the team in investigating reconciliation breaks Qualifications and Skills Good knowledge of financial reporting process and related internal control framework Knowledge of securities broker dealer business, financial products and regulatory reporting (SEA 15c3-1) Proficiency MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio) Strong analytic and problem solving skills; strong documentation skills; high level of urgency and deadline driven: attention to detail, accuracy and accountability Strong communication and interpersonal skills; possesses diplomacy and displays confidence A team member who is collaborative yet able to work independently Knowledge of Oracle GL suite is a strong plus 2 to 5 years of specialized experience in Financial Services 2 + years Financial Reporting (broker dealer experience is a strong plus) BA/BS required; MA/MS/MBA preferred CPA preferred but not required Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Oracle Cloud GL Suite, Broadridge Impact, Alteryx Additional Requirements
