Senior Flow Assurance Engineer

**Job Overview:**
The Senior Flow Assurance Engineer uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external issues to improve the Flow Assurance (Eng) discipline within McDermott. They will act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and share their conceptual and practical expertise related to the Flow Assurance (Eng) discipline. The Senior Flow Assurance Engineer solves complex problems and uses discipline-specific knowledge to improve their products or services. The Senior Flow Assurance Engineer impacts a range of customer, operational, project, or service activities with the Flow Assurance (Eng) team and other related teams and ensures they work within the appropriate guidelines and policies.
**Key Tasks and Responsibilities:**
+ Perform pre-FEED/conceptual, FEED Studies, and Detailed Design analyses and design as per design basis, project specifications, design codes, and standards
+ Apply knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations
+ Prepare clear and accurate detailed fluid characteristic analysis, system modeling, calculations, simulations, and results analyses including study reports, as well as procedures if required
+ Help lead engineer to prepare project bidding documents, i.e. FA SOW, CTR, etc.
+ Manage own time to meet agreed deadlines and budgets and develop plans for short-term work activities in own area
+ Focus on completing work within budgets with high-quality
+ Takes the delegated lead over the discipline project team when necessary
+ Clearly communicate and explain complex issues and work to establish understanding
+ Familiar with and follow McDermott Unifi Processes/Procedures regarding Flow Assurance engineering
+ Have a sound fundamental understanding of basic engineering and academic projects on – petroleum fluids and phase behavior/fluid dynamics/pressure behavior/thermodynamics/heat transfer
+ Have a sound fundamental understanding of single-phase and multiphase fluid flow characteristics in oil and gas production systems; and the flow patterns in the system (i.e. stratified flow, Intermittent flow, annular flow, slug flow, etc.)
+ Have a sound fundamental understanding of the major flow assurance issues in the production system, i.e., hydrate formation and blockage, etc.) and corresponding mitigation strategies
+ Be able to use fluid PVT analysis tools, i.e., Multiflash and PVTsim for fluid characteristic analysis and create fluid files (fluid base or PVT tab files) for simulations
+ Perform validations on the received reservoir fluids information; and perform fluid characteristic analysis to generate detailed fluid data documents (i.e., fluid base or pvt tables)
+ Perform system modeling with flow assurance software (i.e., PIPESIM, OLGA, or PIPENET, etc.) using field layout information, system configuration, geophysical bathymetry profile, and environmental conditions; and perform simulations for different system operating conditions
+ Generate technical study/analysis report based on calculation/simulation results, and respond to peer review comments
+ Provide technical inputs to other related disciplines and parties; provide responses and solutions to interface requirements
+ Ensure good coordination with all other concerned disciplines
+ Execute project closeout activities and communicate lessons learned
+ Identify potential scope changes and report deviations to the team Engineer lead
+ Apply all relevant procedures/codes, Client General Practices (GPs), and standards and applicable as per Project requirements
+ Ensure all relevant McDermott procedures, practices, and quality standards are implemented
+ Ensure good coordination with all other concerned disciplines, and review related documents
+ Execute project closeout activities and communicate lessons learned
+ Advise and assist in resolving problems related to flow assurance and system operability issues during engineering, construction, commissioning, and operation
+ Challenge project requirements where there is room for improvement (Value Cost Engineering)
+ Tasks as Lead Engineer:
+ Work as Lead Engineer on small projects/studies or acting as area lead or deputy lead
+ Have full responsibility for all engineering on small-size projects/studies
+ Have full control and manage work hours, materials, and progress
+ Work in close liaison with the engineering managers, area leads, etc.
+ Coordinate with project management
+ Assist Project Manager/Engineering Manager in:
+ Preparing deliverable control
+ Preparing schedule
+ Preparing progress reports
+ Preparing work-hour and capital expenditure estimates
+ File engineering work
+ Give relevant feedback to the department
Reports to:
Project: Project Engineer or Lead Engineer
Functional: Supervising Department Manager
Liaise with: All Engineering disciplines, Fabrication Group, Safety Dept, Document Control, Procurement Group, Subcontractors and Vendors, and Customers
Supervises: Associate /Trainee and Flow Assurance Engineers
**Essential Qualifications and Education:**
+ Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Master’s Degree and above is Preferred)
+ 8-15 years of experience in Oil and Gas with a major contractor or consultant predominantly performing pre-FEED, FEED, and detail design on Flow Assurance
+ CFD experience a plus
+ Solid knowledge and rich experience in reservoir fluid characteristics analysis and related tools like Multiflash and PVTsim
+ Experience with Flow Assurance issues and their mitigation strategies
+ Strong experience in oil and gas production systems (offshore/subsea and onshore) and oil/gas transmission systems, and their modeling and simulations
+ Strong experience in Flow Assurance engineering software including fluid characteristic analysis software and flow assurance simulation software, single phase and multiphase and their applications; the following are the minimum:
+ PIPEsim
+ OLGA
+ PIPENET
+ Other FA software, i.e., Maximus and LeadFlow
+ Familiar with content and application of Flow Assurance-related standards, codes, and guidelines as applicable
+ Strong experience in flow assurance analysis techniques and methods
+ Strong experience in black oil, wet gas, and single-phase (Gas and oil export, WI, GL, and chemical injection) systems
+ Knowledge of system design, operating philosophy, and techniques Experience with system operability analysis and system operating strategies

+ Preferably Registered Professional Engineer or member of professional engineering society as applicable
+ Knowledge of engineering standards and specifications for the oil and gas industry
+ Good knowledge of engineering software
+ Able to work independently
+ Good working knowledge of English, both oral and written
+ HSE, TQM and cost-conscious
+ Good organizer, motivator, and supervisor
+ Keen on improving the effectiveness of the work
+ Show flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to:
+ The reassignment to other departments/construction sites/fabrication yards
+ The replacement of colleagues during illness and holidays
+ The provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workloads (also other projects) when possible/desirable
+ The managing/learning of current working methods and software applications
+ Support McDermott global Flow Assurance activities and accept reassignment to other McDermott offices
+ Good work experience using multiphase flow steady state software such as PIPESIM and Maximus and transient software such as OLGA and LedaFlow
+ Good work experience using single-phase flow simulation software such as PIPENET
+ Good work experience on production system configurations and operations for oil and gas (including flowlines, risers, export pipelines, XTs, manifold, jumper/spool, etc.), chemical injection systems, water injection systems, and gas lift systems
