JOB TITLE: SENIOR FUEL TAX ACCOUNTANT

POSITION SUMMARY:
Assist with managing offshore fuel tax team members in the calculation of the monthly fuel tax returns as well as remitting the tax return and processing the payments online. Review and submit and/or calculate the monthly journal entries to book the fuel tax and allowance accruals. Complete General Ledger account reconciliations. Conduct detailed research and analytical functions to solve fuel tax issues, work closely with the Fuel Accounting Dept to amend returns and remit any outstanding fuel tax amounts.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assist with managing offshore fuel tax team members in the calculation of the monthly fuel tax returns. Trouble shoot with offshore team on a daily basis.File online fuel tax returns and remit online payments as well as remitting hard copy fuel tax returns and mailing check payments. Calculate, prepare and file the more complicated fuel tax returns.Maintain tax records and related schedules associated with the Federal and Multi-State/County/City motor fuel and environmental tax jurisdictions.Gather and analyze ERP system (PDI) and other various databases fuel reporting metrics on a calendar period basis. Utilize Avalara software for EDI reporting to various jurisdictions.Research and resolve any Federal, State and Local tax notices on a timely basis.Reconcile tax discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.Reconcile fuel tax accounts to General Ledger on a fiscal period basis.Maintain accounting controls by following SOX procedures and maintain financial security by following internal controls.Answer fuel tax questions from internal and external sources by researching and interpreting state and local tax regulations.Manage fuel tax audits and requests for documentation.Assist other fuel team members as necessary.Ensure compliance with requirements, policies and regulations by enforcing adherence to corporate systems, policies and governmental regulations, rendering opinions and advising management on needed actions.Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reading professional publications; establishing personal networks; or participating in professional societies.QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred. Other combinations of experience and education to meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.One to five years of fuel tax experience.Must be computer literate in Word and an advanced Excel user.Experience with PDI and Avalara a plus.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to organize and prioritize detailed information.Proficient at problem solving and data analysis.Strong time management skills.Ability to organize and prioritize detailed information.Proficient at problem solving and data analysis.Committed and strong team player.Detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks or projects simultaneously.#LI-KK1
