Job Description

The Didipio mine is located on Luzon Island in the Philippines and is the Company’s only asset that produces both gold and copper. Didipio was built by OceanaGold in 2013 and operates fully as underground mine, with over 800 employees that support the mine.

Seeking a suitably qualified and reliable Senior Geologist –Exploration on a fixed term employment to support and assist the company in its pursuit of exploration and discovery of Au-Cu deposits in the Philippines. The role will report to the Superintendent – Exploration.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

Utilize advanced exploration techniques, such as geophysical surveys or remote sensing, to identify geological anomalies and targetsIntegrate geological, geochemical, and geophysical data to develop conceptual models of mineralization and exploration targetsConduct detailed geological assessments and prospective studies to prioritize exploration targets and guide drilling programsApply advanced structural geology principles to interpret complex geological structures and their implications for mineralization and mine planningUtilize geological modelling software and GIS tools to integrate geological data and develop three-dimensional geological models of mining areasConduct detailed geological investigations and assessments to identify exploration targets and optimize mine development strategiesConduct economic evaluations and risk assessments of resource deposits, considering factors such as commodity prices, production costs, and regulatory requirementsProvide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff members, guiding them in best practices for resource assessment and project managementDevelop and implement drilling plans that maximize data quality and operational efficiencySolve and /or elevate drilling issues by proper communication with concerned stakeholdersInterpret drilling data to support geological modelsCoordinate drilling projects to concerned department and stakeholdersDevelop solutions to mitigate risk and maximize value

Qualifications

 

Behaviour consistent with OceanaGold Values and the OceanaGold WayLicensed GeologistAt least seven (7) years’ experience in Mineral ExplorationRelevant experience and understanding of Au-Cu porphyry and Au-Ag epithermal depositsDemonstrable understanding of current ore deposit modelsExperience in planning, implementing, and managing drilling, geophysical, geochemical and reconnaissance exploration programsExperience geological mapping and  geochemical sampling methodology,  including analysis of data,  and interpretation and reporting of resultsProficient in geological interpretation, geological and geotechnical core logging, data management and target/project generationStrong skills with Geographic information System (GIS) and Exploration/Mining software (MicroMine, LeapFrog, Mapinfo/discover, etc.)Drive for continuous improvement and innovation
