Senior Geotechnical Engineer (Open Pit)

The Kibali Gold Mine (KGM) Team is seeking to recruit 3 Senior Geotech Engineers (Open Pit) to join and grow our team.

Responsibilities:
Ensure all rock-related incidents and unnecessary interruptions to the mine development and production that can cause injury to personnel, damage equipment’s are reduce or prevented – in essence, provide a safe environment workplace for all open pit personnel and Equipment’s. Inspecting all active pits and ensuring the KGM team and mining contractors adheres to the ground control management plan (GCMP). Carrying out the collection and processing of consistent and high quality open structural and geotechnical mapping, geotechnical core logging and rock mass classification. Provide geotechnical input parameters into the mine planning and design process in timely manner appreciating the mine production schedule. Ensuring ground control audit and quality assurance programs are carried out regularly and documented. Carrying out the geotechnical inspections of exposed ground conditions in the pits under development and providing recommendations for any substandard conditions noted, comparing against the most up-to-date Mining Rock Mass Model (MRMM) for weekly pre-planning of the new mining area. Provide the geotechnical support to the mining operations, particularly if there is an incident, issues or concerns are raised regarding ground conditions and while the slope being established. Perform the pit design conformance and inter-ramp angle compliance to plan and carry out the Geotechnical slope reconciliation of mined pits against the designed pit. Carried out the pit ground control awareness training where required for the mine crew’s acknowledgement rock fall hazard risk identification. Provide to the Geotech Superintendent the weekly and end of month Geotechnical reports. Inspect, investigate and report all rock falls (fall of ground) implement specific geotechnical monitoring programs for the open pit environment. Positive interaction with the mining team and other staff in their day-to-day activities. Be involved in generating weekly, monthly and Life of Mine plans meeting. Providing assistance with slope dewatering and depressurization activities Geotechnical input to mine operations and drill and blasting processes. Support interactions and working with the Underground mining teams for Geotechnical considerations. Take an active role in formulating and executing continuous improvement projects. Provide regular, ongoing assistance and guidance to the Junior Geotechnical Engineers and technicians. Undertake pit slope and dump stability assessment using rock mechanic tools to provide the mine guidance e.g., batter height, batter width, batter angle and inter-ramp slope angle. Review the MRMM from collected Geotechnical data. Review the Kibali GCMP Review and deliver updated stress models. Provide safe and reliable designs for open pit mine. Develop and implement a concise training and development program for the Kibali Junior Geotechnical Engineers and technicians. Providing geotechnical inputs to all open pit mines design. Weekly open pit visits with Mine Foremen or Production Superintendent.Technical Skills and attributes
Knowledge of open pit mining techniques and trackless equipment employed. Knowledge of geotechnical software such as Slide2, Slide3, RS2, RS3, Point studio, OData and Leapfrog. Knowledge of mine design software such as SURPAC, Deswik CAD, Maptek, Vulcan and Aegis. Good inter-personal skills. Sound judgement, analytical skills and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills, with a demonstrated experience of communicating to a variety of stakeholders. Well-developed report writing skills.Qualification Requirements:
Must have tertiary qualification in Mining / Geotechnical / Geological Engineering. Consideration given for Civil or Geology degrees.Experience and Skills Requirements:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in open pit mining operations would be preferable. A minimum of 5-year experience as a Geotechnical Engineer would also be an advantage. Good understanding of mining processes. Have a Driver’s License or obtain one within 3 months of service.Promotional Opportunities:
