As a design expert, the person in this position provides strategic oversight of print publications, websites, data visualizations, digital assets. They have the skills and abilities to work with community partners, other state agencies, internal collaborators, and others to evaluate exiting products and plan for adjustments as the Department of Human Services (DHS) learns how better to communicate with diverse populations throughout the state. As a consultant to every division within DHS, the designer must understand each areas goals, priorities, and audience to deliver designs that meet them where they are. Considerations include population targets, channels of communication and timing in line with other communication tactics. This position also provides full-service visual design expertise and services for the Minnesota Department of Human Services through the Office of Communications in multiple mediums. Visual design is part of high-impact, broadly public communications products that serve critical business needs. The incumbent works in collaboration with other content producers to establish and manage assets in line with applicable state and federal polices and laws. **Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:** + Provides leadership and vision in strategic communication planning particularly as they relate to visual design projects and brand management to create consistent user experiences. + Provides hands-on design and production services. + Designs, develops and participates in communication processes that manage projects ensuring compliance with state and federal law, continuous improvement, and timely production. **Minimum Qualifications** **_**To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month, day and year for each job held.**_** Three (3) years of professional experience working in graphic and web design demonstrating the following: + Skilled expertise in multiple areas of visual design and production, including creative design, graphic arts techniques, production of camera-ready documents, creation of layouts for forms, brochures, large displays, reports, newsletters, etc. + Experience with .html and .css to manipulate existing website designs. + Familiarity with emerging trends in design and visual communication including interactivity, AI and engagement with video and animation. + Extensive knowledge of computer and related graphics and publishing software such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Premiere, Audition, Animate, Dreamweaver. + Thorough understanding of the brand building through visual communication. **Preferred Qualifications** + Experience working in communications for large organizations. + Working knowledge of state and federal laws related to content accessibility and equal access to information. + Basic photography skills. + Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures. **Additional Requirements** REFERENCE/BACKGROUND CHECKS – DHS will conduct reference checks to verify job-related credentials and a criminal background check prior to appointment.
