Summary:

The Senior Guidance Technician is responsible for guiding clients regarding the design and installation of the proper channels of the horizontal drill path based on the specific needs of the drilling project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Guide clients regarding the design and installation of the proper channels of the horizontal drill path based on the specific needs of the drilling project.Execute bores with compound curves including those requiring offset coils and multiple coils.Lay out grid wire of the HDD crossing in appropriate dimensions and shape to achieve the optimal magnetic signature based on the geometry of the crossing.Ensure access to land on and around the pipeline right of way.Utilize Total Station or GPS based systems for projects requiring GYRO tools to complete the survey.Survey the grid wire, along with topography and any utilities the drill will be crossing in order to achieve accurate placement of the HDD using Total Station or GPS-based systems, as well as GYRO tools to complete the survey.Utilize the ParaTrack Gyro Module (PGM) in areas where magnetic interference poses operational challenges for tracking and surveying or in instances of extended reach intervals where surface tracking is not available.Utilize survey results and CAD based software to generate drawings/plans that coincide with client-provided schematics and topographical needs and limits.Analyze drawings for drill paths proposed by the client and determine if the path is feasible; develop alternate plans/drawings to change the drill path, if needed, for submission to proper channels.Establish the surface gear and computer technology at the drill site.Advise drillers to drill the designed path staying in given tolerances.Execute a tool survey at the end of the drill pipe to plot the drill path in the drawing.Execute advanced survey calculations including compound radii and azimuth.Monitor annular pressure and fluid hydraulics.Discern which survey shots are valid and which show external interference.Advise regarding the procedures to remedy interference situations.Engage in tool assembly and loading into the drill rig tooling alongside the drilling crew. Execute ground testing.Upon completion of the drilling, guide drill crew regarding extraction of the tooling and the necessary procedures to maintain and package it for return.

Qualification Requirements:

Five (5) years of experience as Guidance Technician.The five (5) years of experience as Guidance Technician must have involved advising clients regarding horizontal directional drilling and the design and installation of grid wire drilling equipment, as well as the use of drilling technology, including Total Station or GPS-based systems and CAD based software.Two (2) of the five (5) years of experience must have involved the use of the ParaTrack Gyro Module (PGM) system.

Travel Requirement:

This position requires 100% travel to various unanticipated  locations throughout the U.S.  May reside anywhere within the continental U.S.
