Position Specific Description
This posiiton is located at Seabrook Station in Seabrook, NH. Previous experience in Radiation Protection/Health Physics at a commercial nuclear power plant preferred.
Job OverviewPerforms all aspects of the Radiation Protection Program to ensure detection, assessment and control of radiation and radioactive materials in the Station including its systems, structures and work areas. Assists in maintaining personnel exposure as low as reasonably achievable. Performs common and specific duties and responsibilities associated with the assigned departmental organizational section (i.e., Operations, Instrumentation, ALARA, Dosimetry, REMP, and Respiratory Protection) of the Health Physics Department. Provides direction to less experienced technicians as assigned.
Job Duties & Responsibilities Participates in and successfully completes Station and Health Physics Department training and qualification programs Performs assigned duties in accordance with approved procedures, accepted radiation protection practices, regulatory policies, Quality Assurance program requirements, safety rules and regulations Recommends changes to existing Health Physics procedures, methods and practices to improve Station performance and to reduce personnel exposure Performs, under limited supervision, detailed and/or special testing and evaluations using complex components, systems and laboratory equipment Provides functional direction and guidance to other Health Physics Technicians as assigned (i.e., man in-charge or temporary supervisor) Prepares and maintains Health Physics logs, records and other documents for the purposes of substantiating regulatory and procedural compliance Maintains designated emergency equipment and assures their availability by periodic inspections and inventories Provides various support for Radwaste functions including shipping and receipt of radioactive material Identifies and reports noted deficiencies to appropriate personnel Terminates any department activity which is not being carried out in accordance with applicable procedures, specifications, regulations, requirements or accepted practices Terminates any activity which jeopardizes personnel safety, equipment safety, or continued power generation. Prepares and processes personnel, environmental, site area and emergency plan TLDs Assists in the implementation of the in-vitro bioassay program Performs respirator (face piece) fit testing of personnel Performs maintenance, testing and calibration of health physics instrumentation Inspects, tests, certifies, issues and maintains respiratory protection equipment such as self-contained breathing apparatus and air purifying respirators for normal and emergency use Performs radioactive source leak testing and inventories Operators, maintains and calibrates whole body count equipment Maintains Health Physics Counting Room equipment and ensures that it is calibrated and operable at all times Establishes and verifies acceptability of breathing air equipment for use with airline respiratory protection equipment in emergency, routine and maintenance activities Performs surveys and sampling for the purposes of detection and control of radiation and radioactive material in plant systems, components and structures Provides radiation protection surveillance and control of all Station operations and maintenance activities to ensure that they are in accordance with procedural requirements and ALARA concepts Issues industrial respiratory protection equipment in accordance with established safety procedures Determines radiological respiratory protection requirements and issues the appropriate equipment Controls and issues portable monitoring devices and assists in the control and issue of personnel monitoring devices Monitors movement and handling of all radioactive materials at the Station Prepares, authorizes and controls Radiation Work Permits Performs the duties of the shift Health Physics Technician which includes overseeing operation of the Health Physics Control Point Operates computerized plant systems designated for Health Physics personnel (e.g., Radiation Data Management System, etc.) Performs assessments of radiation protection program activities Assists the Health Physics Supervisor in Health Physics training functions and maintenance of the department qualification roster Performs all other duties as assigned Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Four to five years of experience in Health Physics at Seabrook Station or at a nuclear facility. (Reference ANSI/ANS 3.1-1993) Successful completion of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH) aptitude test required. Preferred Qualifications Associates degree in a related field or equivalent education and/or experience is preferred.
