Senior Health & Safety Specialist
**Talen Energy is seeking a Health & Safety Specialist at our Brunner Island plant in York Haven, Pennsylvania. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the H&S Specialist at the Brunner Island power plant functions as part of the site leadership team utilizing their technical expertise, discretion, and judgment within established and newly devised policies, procedures, and practices.** **Responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of identified health and safety programs including the complex analysis of data resulting from these programs. Manages and oversees existing health and safety programs to reduce risk in the work environment. Recommends and designs new workplace health and safety programs relative to risk management and hazard abatement. Develops action plans to control health risks and hazards to all employees in the workforce. Creates, modifies and submits revisions to safety manuals and procedures as appropriate.** **The incumbent provides technical guidance and direction to other Company employees in support of producing high quality, timely and cost effective solutions to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State and local regulations. This position requires partnering with groups, such as but not limited to those involved in training and performance assessment to identify learning and development gaps, identify solutions and to foster development of all employees relative to health and safety issues.** **How You’ll Power the Future** **_At Talen Energy, your work fuels progress. In this role, you’ll do more than contribute you’ll drive meaningful change by:_** + Serves as a technical expert and provides technical support to internal and external stakeholders’ regarding compliance with health and safety regulations. + Supports programs to enhance the public image of corporate health and safety performance through education activities and other actions that encourage responsible behavior. + Organizes and conducts health and safety studies. + Performs trending analysis to improve health and safety performance by gathering data, developing reports, identifying gaps, evaluating risk and implementing process improvements and/or corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence. + Evaluates, designs and conducts training and materials in support of health and safety initiatives. + Actively engages with entire organization; coaches and mentors all levels of personnel on critical skills, behaviors and techniques that build and sustain a zero injury/illness culture. + Provides governance and quality oversight of health and safety programs. + Recommends changes in procedures, processes, design or equipment. + Keeps abreast of federal, state and local occupational health and safety regulations; reviews technical literature. + Participates in audits for compliance to occupational health and safety programs. + Participates in industrial safety conferences and benchmarks top performing organizations for program improvements. + Supervises the plant's bargaining unit safety advocate. **What You Have** **Minimum Requirements** + Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or other equivalent technical field. + Work experience in industrial hygiene or safety. (Senior specialist requires 2-5 years’ experience). + Experience with interpretation of health and safety regulations. + Experience rapidly organizing and analyzing complex and diverse topics and situations, as well as large amounts of data. **Preferred Qualifications** + The ability to adapt to changing conditions, priorities, and requirements, as well as, the need to rapidly learn new skills. + The ability to develop workgroup and team relationships. + Strong oral and written communication skills with an ability to create, communicate and deliver reports, presentations, and site communications. + Ability to lead teams and direct HS related efforts. + Experience with a union workforce is a plus. **Why Talen Energy?** _Power the Future_ Talen Energy is one of the largest competitive energy and power generation companies in North America.
