Senior High Voltage Engineer

Join our team as a Lead or Senior High Voltage Engineer in our Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga or Wellington office.

Aurecon is involved in a number of large multidisciplinary transport projects delivering transport benefits to the community and acting as a catalyst for the reduction of carbon emissions from transport. As our new Lead / Senior High Voltage Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering high voltage infrastructure on projects across New Zealand and Australia.

This role offers the opportunity to lead High Voltage infrastructure projects across diverse industries, supporting energy transition, decarbonisation, and electrification. You'll work with transport, industrial, transmission, distribution, and generation clients on impactful projects such as City Rail Link, Huntly BESS, and electrification initiatives like Mataura Valley Milk’s electric steam boiler. In addition to delivering HV and Traction Power designs, you'll provide technical guidance, support site works, and build strong client relationships, with potential team leadership responsibilities for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

The ability to lead High Voltage and Traction Power design packages

Experience in Medium / High Voltage designs including switchgear, transformers, substation layouts, earthing, HV cables, ancillary equipment, protection and control

Technical eminence of high voltage infrastructure

Desirable experience with transport projects and electric vehicle projects such as railways, electric buses, EV charging, trolley assist or electric ferries

Proven ability to lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams, fostering collaboration and professional growth

Experience in people management, including performance development and team engagement

Demonstrated success in preparing and winning tenders

Extensive project leadership and management experience within a consultancy environment, with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes for clients

What are we looking for from you?  

The ideal candidate will have the following:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical)

Ideally you will be chartered

Proven experience in a similar role with ideally 8-10 years’ experience post-graduation

Proven success in building strong client relationships and delivering exceptional client engagement.
