GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position performs technical master-level and supervisory work in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration; including new construction, remodeling, repair, and preventative maintenance of systems in state-owned or leased buildings, especially those requiring heating and cooling 24/7 for occupancy, thereby providing a safe, well-maintained and comfortable environment for the elected officials, state employees, visitors, and general public in the Capitol Complex area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
+ This position performs all the duties of the HVAC Specialist.
+ Installs adjusts, troubleshoots, and maintains electrical, direct digital controls, and electronic/pneumatic/mechanical temperature control devices on HVAC/R systems.
+ Conducts routine maintenance on HVAC/R equipment.
+ Provides oversight on HVAC/R projects performed by outside contractors for code compliance, payments, design, and installation.
+ Works with professional engineers on project design and construction.
+ Designs and conducts cost estimates for installing environmental control units and facility support systems that need new systems or replacement systems.
+ Manages the procurement and use of ozone-depleting substances.
+ Conducts efficiency analysis on HVAC systems and proposes energy-saving modifications.
+ Utilizes infrared imaging for predictive maintenance.
+ Installs and maintains various mechanical equipment.
+ Performs seasonal startup and shutdown of heating and air-conditioning plants and other related equipment.
+ Works around Hazardous and/or toxic materials.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference will be given to those applicants with HVAC Journeyman or equivalent technician license, or an EPA license.
KNOWLEDGE:
+ Knowledge of refrigeration cycle, refrigerants, air conditioning, and related air handling equipment.
+ Knowledge of acceptable practices, methods, and tools used in installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC-R Equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in HVAC) with acquired knowledge at the level of an HVAC Specialist
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in HVAC) with acquired knowledge at the level of an HVAC Specialist
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Agency may require an EPA License.
Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
+ Ability to lift 50 pounds.
+ Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions
+ Ability to work in tight, confined spaces
+ Ability to work comfortably at a variety of heights
+ Ability to walk great distances throughout the facility
