Salary Range: $34.25- $38.82 Responsibilities: · Hydrogeology Responsibilities: - Act as the lead Source Water Protection (SWP) program hydrogeologist and develop work plans, budgets, contracts for hydrogeological work, program policies, guidance, directives, and memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with the Bureau Chief. - Serve as the lead for the Groundwater (GW) Monitoring Technical Committee. - Serve as the statewide lead DEQ hydrogeologist for nitrate priority area rankings and assessment, leading managed aquifer recharge project reviews, and developing required groundwater monitoring plans. - Coordinate with program staff to assist other programs and regional offices to review nutrient pathogen studies, reuse, or other activities impacting groundwater. · Source Water Assessment (SWA) and GW Program Development and Outreach: - Develop SWAs for Idaho public water systems (PWSs), including delineated SWP areas and zones of concerns for groundwater, spring water, and surface water supplies of drinking water for PWSs. - Develop inventories of potential contaminant sources and characterizations of land activities located withing SWA protection areas. - Determine and rank PWS’s susceptibility to potential contamination by identifying potential contaminant sources. - Assist in implementing a process that informs PWSs, municipalities, and the public about threats identified in SWAs and what they mean to the PWS. - Assist the GW Bureau Chief and SWP Coordinator in reviewing SWP plans and promoting SWP education and outreach activities. - Participate in training and education workshops for PWSs and local government officials. - Support the GW Bureau Chief in developing and revising DEQ Groundwater Program policies, program directives, guidance, and MOUs. · Interagency Coordination and Management: - Oversee and review select geological work for a limited number of DEQ staff that are pursuing their professional geologist (PG) license in Idaho. - Review specific hydrogeological related work, reports, and opinions and provide feedback to those persons. - Serve as a reference for hydrogeologists as part of their PG exam application process. - Offer reviews and comments on projects and activities involving complex hydrogeological problems, fate and transport modeling, mining and industrial site monitoring and remediation, aquifer characterization, analytical data evaluation, and points of compliance determinations. - Provide GW regulatory advice and expertise to other DEQ divisions and programs, other state agencies, and local governments. Minimum Qualifications: · Considerable knowledge of physical or biological scientific principles, methodologies, and applications · Possession of a bachelor’s degree in the physical or biological sciences, or a related fieldand an additionalsix (6) years of professional experience designing and implementing scientific applications, investigations, studies such as chemical, physical, or biological monitoring, corrective action plans, analysis, and assessment, OR; Possession of a Master's degree in the sciences or related field;and an additionalfour (4) years of related work experience, as defined above, OR; Possession of a Doctor of Philosophy in the sciences or related field;and an additionaltwo (2) years of related work experience, as defined above. OR; Any other equivalent combination of education and work experience as described above.
