Senior Incoming/Quality Inspector
Overview We are seeking a full-time Senior Incoming/Quality Inspector in our Miramar, FL location. In this role, you will be responsible for processing and inspecting incoming materials and finished goods to ensure the conformance of parts and sub-assemblies that support our aviation and/or consumer business. Essential Functions Apply Garmin procedures/policies to conduct dimensional, visual, electrical and functional validation on parts, assemblies, and finished product to Garmin and inspection specifications using calibrated inspections devices and tools (electrical components, mechanical hardware and purchased sub-assemblies and finished product) Demonstrate advanced competencies of all Inspection process and procedures Performs all First Article related activities Proficient in interpreting GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards and perform unit of measure conversions. Demonstrates advanced proficiency in standard inspection tools, equipment, and CMM along with best practice inspection methods Mentor inspectors on Garmin documentation, requirements and inspection techniques and any new or revised procedures and methods. Coordinate daily work for the team to align priorities and resources and ensure timely and accurate results Identify non-conforming material and initiate reports to ensure proper material review and disposition Independently manage priorities based on input from Production, Purchasing and inspection resources Work autonomously with minimal direction from supervisor and balanced focus on quality and quantity Demonstrates a sense of urgency, commitment, and prioritization acting in Garmin’s best interests Applies detailed knowledge of Garmin processes and procedures and works collaboratively and professionally with a sense of urgency in a team environment with other Garmin associates to achieve goals Analyzes Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) to determine effect on inspection activities Identify opportunities for improving inspection efficiencies; work with Engineering and Operations personnel for implementing improved inspection methods Apply Lean principles to continuously improve workflows to enhance customer satisfaction. Maintain and improve 5S compliance. Train others in these expectations. Works collaboratively and professionally in a team environment with other Garmin associates to achieve goals including sharing ideas and information freely and positively This position requires Garmin provided personal protective equipment including SD shoes (Static Dissipative Footwear) to be always worn for an entire shift to minimize the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and meet specified standards. Comply with all corporate and departmental policies in the performance of work or workplace activities Performs other task or duties required to support the Garminoperations, as directed by department or corporate management on an as needed basis. Basic Qualifications Associates Degree in Electromechanics, Computer Science, Industrial Science or Quality or Vocational Certificate in Electronics or related AS degree Program AND 5 years related experience OR an equivalent combination of 7 years equivalent experience Must possess a minimum of 7 years mechanical part inspection experience with advanced proficiency using precision measurement equipment including calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, and Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) or multi-axis measurement systems Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Demonstrated high degree of dexterity and hand-eye coordination with demonstrated ability to manipulate and handle small and delicate parts, fixtures and test equipment, in the performance of essential functions Demonstrated visual acuity to distinguish colors (Red-Green-Blue) and shades of gray, to allow differentiation of colors and textures in materials Must be proficient in math and measurement skills with the demonstrated ability to convert English/Metric units of measure and calculate tolerance limits Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access) Ability to lift or up to 55 pounds while using safe lifting techniques Must be detail-oriented and work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment Must possess behaviors that are in line with Garmin’s mission, Vision, and Values Desired Qualifications Familiarity with Oracle E-Business suite and Agile PLM applications 2+ years of experience with Garmin part inspection using the Garmin part numbering system and Garmin Inspection procedures 1+ years electronic assembly or electronic system test/repair, to provide knowledge of component function, style, and handling precautions Fluent in both English and Spanish Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
