**Core Responsibilities**
As a Senior Interactive Play Designer - Interactive Toymaker, you will drive the design, prototyping, and development of interactive play experiences that bring LEGO toys to life. You will explore mechanical, electronic, and digital interactions, using hands-on making, hacking, and playtesting to craft engaging products that inspire kids worldwide. In this role, you will:
+ Invent and prototype new interactive LEGO toys that combine physical movement, sensors, and digital play elements.
+ Explore and integrate new toy technologies, such as mechanical functions, IoT sensors, NFC, haptics, and motion tracking.
+ Prototype interactive play experiences using physical materials (LEGO bricks, 3D printing, sensors) and digital tools (Unity, Arduino, Micro:bit, Raspberry Pi, etc.).
+ Iterate and refine toy designs through hands-on playtesting with kids, ensuring experiences are intuitive, engaging, and fun.
+ Work closely with engineers, model designers, and digital teams to bring interactive play ideas to life.
+ Stay up to date on industry trends, exploring new materials, mechanical innovations, and emerging play technologies.
+ Mentor and guide designers, fostering an environment of exploration, creativity, and hands-on prototyping.
+ Challenge and push LEGO play innovation, finding new ways to enhance physical-digital interactions and longevity in play.
**Play your part in our team succeeding**
You will be part of the LEGO Interaction Design Team in Billund, Denmark, a team of 40+ designers and makers working on a variety of interactive and connected play experiences. We collaborate across LEGO franchises, engineering, marketing, and digital development to create innovative interactive toys that bring new levels of engagement and storytelling to LEGO play. A hands-on, experimental mindset is essential, as we constantly push what’s possible in interactive toy design
**Do you have what it takes**
We are looking for a curious and inventive toy designer who loves to prototype, experiment, and craft interactive experiences. You enjoy getting hands-on with materials, sensors, and mechanics, blending traditional toy-making with digital play elements. The ideal candidate has:
+ A bachelor's or master's degree in Toy Design, Industrial Design, Engineering, Game Design, Interaction Design, or a related field.
+ Minimum a handful of years experience with designing interactive toys, physical-digital play, or connected play experiences.
+ Strong expertise in prototyping physical interactions, using materials like LEGO bricks, 3D printing, and mechatronics.
+ Experience with sensors, IoT, and interactive components (e.g., motion sensors, NFC, haptics, sound, motors).
+ Hands-on skills in prototyping tools, such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Micro:bit, or Unity for interactive play experiences.
+ A deep understanding of play mechanics, toy safety, and child-centered design.
+ A passion for working with kids and using playtesting insights to refine toy experiences.
+ A collaborative approach, working across disciplines to bring interactive toys from concept to reality.
The successful candidate will be required to participate in a Child Safety Background Check as part of our commitment to ensuring a safe and positive play experience for all children
**The position is based in Billund, DK and relocation support is not offered for this role.**
