Join a top 10 global design firm in our Buildings Practice, which provides integrated Interior Design, Architecture, and Engineering services. We are seeking a Senior Interior Designer to join our interdisciplinary team with a specific focus on our education sector.

 

Our Mid-Atlantic practice, which consists of offices in Charlottesville, VA; Arlington, VA; Washington, DC; Philadelphia, PA; and Minneapolis, MN, is a company-wide leader in educational design. Currently, we focus on the geographic areas in the vicinity of our offices (including Richmond, Central Virginia, and the 64- and 95-corridors) while collaborating across the region to lend our expertise to pursuits and projects further afield (e.g. New York City, Boston, and elsewhere in the Northeast region and beyond).

 

Our Mid-Atlantic education team is primarily based in Charlottesville, Arlington, and Philadelphia. We work collaboratively across offices with the Arlington office leading projects in Northern Virginia and Washington, DC while the Charlottesville office leads work in the rest of Virginia including the greater-Richmond area. Projects include a range of renovations, additions, and new construction with public and private clients in both K12 and higher education. We’re seeking to grow our team to improve design, increase capacity to win work, and strengthen our leadership team.

 

As a Senior Interior Designer, you will lead and/or support educational interior planning and design with clients and projects locally, regionally, and nationally as appropriate.  A primary role of the Senior Interior Designer is to envision and translate the needs and desires of a client into cohesive design solutions. Our multidisciplinary approach encompasses architecture, interior design, and engineering systems as one cohesive vision and team. A Senior Interior Designer is expected to be an active and collaborative team member, conceptualizing, planning, developing, and documenting varying aspects of interior design of a project including but not limited to space planning, interior architecture, interior materials and palette, specifications and FFE. This process may involve production of or oversight of drawings (2D/3D) and written material to support the conceptual direction of interior design and FFE. This individual will often be required to present their ideas in formal and informal settings internally with the team and externally with clients.

 

Additionally, this role includes specific focus on leadership within the education studio’s interior design group including client management, business development, and team leadership.  In this leadership role you will partner with principals and together be responsible for project performance in terms of client satisfaction, design excellence, financial performance, team mentorship, and technical quality. The role primarily involves client facing leadership and management of the internal team with external consultants. You may be called upon to manage multiple projects of various complexity and scope. 

 

As part of the education leadership team, your role includes supporting how we win, do, and manage the work that drives our practice. The role is intended to assist with the development of strategic growth plans which are set annually and include strategic goals, growth targets, and financial performance targets. You will coauthor and support local/regional education client development in conjunction with the education principals. Specifically, you will target business development with public and private K12 and high education clients in the greater-Richmond area helping to accelerate Stantec’s growth and opportunity in that geographic area.

 

Your Key Responsibilities  Represent Stantec and the team in a client-facing role and maintain positive client relationships. Identify new business opportunities, create new client relationships, and lead business development efforts including proposals and interviews. Work collaboratively with leadership and peers to build and enhance our education practice including attracting and retaining team members, mentoring team members, creating an engaging and inclusive culture, establishing a strong focus on design, and collaborating on business planning and strategy. Plan, organize, and direct the work throughout the life of the project to successfully deliver the project to the client. Participate in and lead visioning workshop discussions and activities with clients to ascertain cultural and practical needs and desires and translate into the built environment. Participate in development of the program and other pre-design efforts. Develop space planning, block planning, and/or adjacency diagrams in coordination with building program. Conceptualize and develop interior design from both a functional and aesthetic perspective in concert with a client’s requirements, budget, and program. Develop the interior architecture, material palette, design documentation, and FFE through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats to express the design intent. Present design ideas and solutions to clients. Work with outside and internal team members and consultants to coordinate drawings sets. Ensure design complies with building codes, ADA guidelines and LEED per project type and requirements. Coordinate building systems to ensure compatibility with the design intent and implement sustainable design principles. Mentor Interior Design staff. Adhere to Stantec’s required QA/QC process, including design reviews. Demonstrate a commitment to the profession and the firm.   Your Capabilities and Credentials  Exhibit extensive project experience supporting the ability to win, do, and manage work. Demonstrate thorough understanding of all phases of architectural document production through construction administration and the relationship between drawings and specifications. Demonstrate thorough knowledge and application of accessibility codes and applicable building codes. Demonstrates effective communication skills (verbal and written). Ability to lead/guide junior staff and take responsibility for accuracy and completeness of documentation. Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting through all phases of document production. Ability to engage in creative and critical thought. Ability to present to client groups and create design solutions that interpret and fulfill the needs of the client. Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building programs and other similar material and communicate abstract ideas (verbal/written). Understands Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD; Prefer experience with Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUP, Newforma, Bluebeam, etc.

 

Education and Experience  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Interior Design or related field.  Licensed Interior Designer. Minimum of 7 years of experience. LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.

Additional Information Salary Range(s): Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s): Location Description: Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in WA and DC Min Pay Range: $90,300 Max Pay Range: $135,500 Note: The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
