The Senior IT Systems Architect/Subject Matter Expert will provide support services crucial role in maintaining and troubleshooting a diverse range of legacy and current IT systems for the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Rome, New York. Responsibilities Provide desktop support, conduct security audits, and manage user accounts. Install, configure, operate, and maintain operating systems, servers, infrastructure, and applications to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Install, configure, secure, operate, and maintain applications. Review weekly ACAS scans and remediate identified issues. Support the Assessment and Authorization (A&A) process by creating artifacts, documenting controls, and assisting with continuous monitoring. Monitor system logs and alerts to proactively identify potential issues that will impact operational stability or information system security. Perform STIG hardening of information systems components. Manage accounts, permissions, and access control. Monitor system performance, resource utilization, and network traffic to identify and resolve issues proactively. Provide technical support and assistance to end users, troubleshooting hardware and software problems, and documenting progress and resolution in ticketing system. Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, network topology, procedures, and troubleshooting steps to facilitate knowledge sharing and problem resolution. Author and maintain Policies, Processes, and Procedures within the organizations Strategic IT Management framework. Create and maintain architectural diagrams and make recommendations for improvements to the information system architecture. Manage software updates and patches, ensuring that information system components are up to date with the latest security patches and software releases to minimize vulnerabilities. Liaise with government and contractor organizations to ensure information is current and accurate. Participate in meetings and coordinate inter and intra-command IT matters and efforts when applicable. Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement to streamline system administration tasks and enhance operational efficiency. Engage in continuous learning to keep pace with evolving technologies, cybersecurity threats, and industry best practices. Install, configure, operate, and maintain client/server database software required to support the business requirements. Maintain a neat, secure, and orderly facility. Complete annual company and customer training requirements according to established policies and procedures, as required. Record labor hours daily in an online corporate system. Travel up to 10% as required. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. 3+ years of related work experience. DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II or higher baseline certification required (CompTIA Security+, CISSP, etc). Must be a U.S. Citizen. Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Training training/knowledge of Kubernetes, Ansible, and Docker. The ability to manage a virtualized data center across multiple security classification levels up to and eventually including Top Secret. Experience with operating and maintaining IT systems in a DoD environment desired. Experience with operating and maintaining IT systems in a research or academic environment. Experience commensurate with DoD or AFRL Risk Management Framework (RMF) and hardening and operating IT systems accordingly. Experience with the application of the DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs). Experience with DevOps paradigm for data center operations and automated system provisioning and configuration management using Ansible. Experience with helpdesk support of a highly technical, geographically distributed user-base (scientists, engineers, and developers). Must be well organized, an effective communicator at multiple levels, and able to grasp system concepts and communicate their applications. Must be capable of quickly learning new systems and associated software applications for proficient execution of tasks. Must be capable of managing multiple tasks with time-related constraints in a fast-paced environment. Ability to schedule and prioritize work to accommodate customer needs while minimizing the impact on current projects. Ability to work with all departments to ensure network availability, security, and accessibility. Possess strong problem-solving skills. Ability to self-start and work independently or as a team. Ability to travel up to 10% as requested.
