About UK Assessment & Qualifications

We are responsible for the delivery of nearly 4 million examination results per annum, including A-Level, GCSE, BTEC and T-levels for students in UK and International centres. Our in-house systems process every learner from registration to marking and certification, in a highly regulated business. We currently operate a hybrid estate of predominantly bespoke systems, with an ongoing strategic transformation programme to migrate from on-prem to cloud based, cost effective, scalable and resilient services.

 

About the job

The position is for a Senior Analyst-Developer to work on a business critical AWS-hosted Marking Platform, as we transition ownership of the platform from another Pearson team. The role will focus on both knowledge transfer and strategic development.

 

About you

We’d expect that you can demonstrate delivery of several business-critical projects as a full-stack developer, developing solutions that provide real benefit to users and working in an Agile project delivery environment using Scrum or Kanban. Additionally, we’d expect you to demonstrate experience of creating technical documentation and knowledge repositories to support knowledge transfer. 

 

Key Skills & Experience

Experience in Java & J2EE principles, Spring Core, JPA, and Hibernate frameworks. Experience in RDBMS and involve in writing SQL queries (MySQL 8.0), Procedures, and NoSQL queries using Mongo DB. Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services like EC2, AWS Lambda, Amazon Elastic Cache, Amazon Aurora, Amazon RDS, and Amazon Dynamo DB, AWS APIs for S3 Experience in developing the user interface screens with JSF Prime Faces, Angular, HTML5, CSS3, jQuery, JavaScript (ES5+), Backbone JS / React JS / Node JS and Bootstrap. Experience in Restful API for producing and consuming web services. Technical documentation and knowledge transfer. Excellent Problem-Solving Skills and Working in Teams.

 

Desirable Skills & Experience

Amazon CloudWatch, AWS Auto Scaling, Amazon CloudFront, and AWS Step Functions. Microservices Architecture with Spring Boot and Docker. Jasper Framework. Selenium Framework for automated testing. Docker JMeter Maven

 

The role is aligned to our Rotherham office, located at Junction 1 of the M18, making it commutable from Sheffield, Leeds, Doncaster, Derby or Nottingham. 

This role is mainly hybrid working, meaning visiting your base office no more than once a week with the possibility of occasional travel to other Pearson sites, however, there is a requirement to be present in your base office 4 days per week during the business critical period of May to July. There is also a requirement to provide on-call out of hours support during this period.

We work a 37.5 hour week, with all our team free to flex their day around our core hours, which are Monday to Friday, 10 to 4 GMT/BST. School runs, etc can be accommodated. Other flexible working patterns can be considered, including part-time working and non-traditional hours. As we regularly work with global teams, particularly in India and the US, there may be the occasional need to accommodate meetings outside of core hours.
