We work on the Global Streaming Platform supporting various video on demand products such as SkyShowtime, Peacock, Showmax, and NowTV.
Sky tech hub in Prague consists of around 100 people and it will be growing in the future. These are mostly developers, video-streaming enthusiasts and experts, with extensive experience across markets, technology, and products working on the Global Streaming Platform. We are collaborating closely with our colleagues in the UK, Portugal and the US.

What role will you play?
As a Senior Java Developer, you'll be part of an international team building a Content Management System that powers the content and metadata for Sky’s video streaming platforms such as Peacock, SkyShowtime, Showmax, and NowTV spanning multiple continents. You'll be developing Java-based end-user applications, including data ingestion pipeline services, internal web applications for editorial teams, and highly scalable APIs. You will be responsible for driving the technical direction of the team, ensuring best practices and high standards are maintained.
In addition to developing new features and technical improvements, you will focus on the resolution of incidents and overall support of the services owned by the team. This includes identifying and resolving issues in the codebase, using debugging tools and techniques to diagnose problems, and ensuring the reliability and robustness of the system. You will propose solutions and make design decisions to address complex technical challenges, ensuring the system's scalability and efficiency. Your expertise will be crucial in guiding the team through technical hurdles and implementing new solutions.
You will also play a crucial role in mentoring less experienced team members, providing guidance and support to help them grow. You will become a subject matter expert in key domain areas, always considering also non-functional testing aspects such as security, resiliency, and performance. Additionally, you will build relationships and communicate proactively with colleagues outside of your immediate team to avoid silos and improve collaboration. This role offers the opportunity to explore key aspects of our platform while collaborating closely with teams in Prague and London.
Key Responsibilities:
Development of the CMS application components using Java and Spring with focus on both new features and fixes or improvements of existing functionality
Strive for continuous improvement – be able to improve existing practices and techniques from within the team with enthusiasm
Write well-tested code for robustness including edge cases, usability and general reliability. Focus on non-functional testing as well.
Assist in setting up the CI and CD, monitoring and alerting and in general improving reliability and robustness of the system
Identify and resolve issues in the codebase. Use debugging tools and techniques to diagnose problems.
Mentor less experienced members of the team
Assist in the maintenance and support of the AWS infrastructure, Kubernetes deployment, Postgresql Database or Kafka
Review code written by peers to ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
Work closely with other developers, architects and analysts both in Prague and London to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
Participate in daily standup-meetings as well as other team ceremonies to discuss progress, blockers, and plans.
What skills do you need to play your role well?

Strong Java and Spring knowledge and experience with technologies such as AWS, PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, Prometheus, Grafana, Kibana, Jenkins
Good overview of other relevant technologies and experience with designing software solutions
Ability to work well not only in your team but also in a cross-team environment.
Hands on experience in designing, developing and successful deployment of web applications, RESTful APIs or event-driven systems and asynchronous messaging using Kafka
Experience with automated test frameworks including considerations for non-functional requirements
Knowledge of Unix/Linux and scripting languages (Bash, etc.)
Being self-driven and eager to learn and stay updated with the latest technologies, frameworks, and best practices.
Creative thinking skills and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related field would be preferred.
Fluent English.
