Package: £47,690 - £65,000 + Allowance (depending on your suitability, qualifications & level of experience)

Let us introduce the role
AWE is currently recruiting for a Senior Joining Specialist. This role will complement our Joining Development and Manufacturing team in support of all current and future Warhead programmes. The successful candidate will integrate with a team of welding specialists to establish joining techniques across all areas of the business.
Who are we looking for?
We do need you to have the following:
Experience of working in an industrial/R+D environment
Experience of working on scientific/industrial equipment
Experience operating laser welding equipment
Experience with machining processes
Experience of writing weld procedure specification (WPS) and qualification methods
Knowledge of laboratory safety principles and practice
Knowledge of physical metallurgy
Knowledge of Joining/Welding technologies. Keyhole & conduction
Knowledge of laser welding equipment, design and operation
Knowledge of weld defects and controls
Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we’d like you to have experience in some of the following:
Planning and delivering Joining programmes to meet project and process area objectives in terms of safety, cost, timing, legislation and quality whilst coaching and developing more junior Joining Specialists to meet current and future objectives
Developing, validating and manufacture of high integrity joints on a variety of materials. Design of test pieces, fixtures and tooling
Acting as a subject matter expert on Laser Welding processes and formulate and approve weld procedures
Liaising with facility and Safety Teams in preparing and ensuring all required documentation is in place and maintained in date
Liaising with key stakeholders, project teams and management, ensuring appropriate communication of project/programme status
Liaising with wider UK industry and institutions
Providing a diverse and inclusive working environment that allows individuals to flourish and realise their potential
Working with others to form high performing teams
We would also like you to have:

The ability work with other resource groups (e.g. Production Staff, Facility, Health Physics)

You must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the role (more information on this can be found on our website) and be willing and able to travel within the UK and overseas and hold a full UK Driving Licence. Candidates must also be willing to work with RA materials
Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston.
