Job Description
Responsibilities:
-Coordinates and oversees the daily operational activities of research and teaching laboratories (basic and applied nutrition science) that include 5 common use equipment laboratories and 3 teaching labs. Ensures adherence to university lab standards and practices.-Oversees procurement of laboratory equipment and supplies, chemical storage, safety labeling and inventory control. Maintains inventory supplies and records.-Oversees the maintenance of laboratory facilities, equipment and instrumentation and arranges for repairs. Evaluates existing laboratory facilities and recommends improvements.- Maintains service agreements.-Develops and maintains standard operating procedures for laboratory. Develops procedures for the use of laboratory instrumentation in written format as well as user-friendly step- by-step videos of usage.-Ensures the proper safety training of all new personnel in laboratories.-Ensures proper storage, handling and disposal of laboratory waste.-Assists in the development and update of instructional materials for teaching laboratories. Assists in the development and testing of new experiments and curricula. -Supervises laboratory staff, graduate students and undergraduate students in the handling and preparation of laboratory materials.-Coordinates teaching assignments for laboratory sections. May teach undergraduate lab courses.- Ensures the proper functioning of sensitive common equipment such as 4C, -20C, and - 80C freezers.- Ensures deliveries of temperature-sensitive materials are delivered to the appropriate laboratories and correctly stored. -Building Proctor for Cater Mattil and newly remodeled Borlaug Building-Manage key control, visitor access and keyless building access.-Prepare and manage space AND equipment inventory- IT liaison and IT issues point of contact for the department-Take pictures of employees AND equipment for website-Supervises laboratory student workers as needed-Other duties as assigned.Required Education and Experience:–Bachelor’s degree in Biology or equivalent combination of education and experience.– Five years of experience Required knowledge, skills and abilities:-Ability to work on weekends as needed.-Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others. -Good communication and computer skills.
