Position Summary

Oversees day-to-day immunohistochemistry laboratory operations and other automated and manual tests. Ensures consistency of quality across multiple platforms while helping to pursue the department's scientific projects and mission. This role also develops standard operating procedures for immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and molecular assays. Provides training to new staff.

Job Responsibilities Serves as main operational lead for the technical aspects immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF) and molecular tests as a paid service and clinical research. Participates in discussions with department and laboratory leadership. Assists with formulating and implementing the short and long-range goals for the operation and growth of TRP; sets priorities, assigns responsibilities, and establishes timetables. Performs all routine procedures and provides technical support in biomarker assay development, including discovery and validation of biomarker targets, experimental design, data analysis, and coordination of lab activities. Responsible for adapting various protocols from vendors including multiplexed IHC and IF, real-time PCR, digital image analysis, deep learning and other emerging technologies critical to the continued research support of TRP. Oversees IHC technician(s); diagnoses problems and provides troubleshooting. Evaluates IHC technician(s) performance. Performs other related duties as assigned Education Bachelor's Degree Experience

Master's degree or PhD with molecular biology research experience preferred.

5 plus years of related research experience with a focus on IHC and/or molecular biology.
 
HT/HTL (ASCP) preferred or eligible.

Proficient on pathology clinical laboratory tests.

Familiar with immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence staining.

Knowledge of immunopathology preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written). Advanced level analytical/troubleshooting skills. Advanced time management and organizational skills Demonstrated ability to perform listed duties, work independently and follow through on work assignments. Licenses and Certifications Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Light lifting of boxes, reagents, other solutions and equipment.

Subject to exposure of blood, fluids, tissue and other potentially infectious materials. Exposure to odorous chemicals, and specimens.
