Role Overview

Lead and manage metallurgical projects from conception to completion. Conduct advanced metallurgical research and development to improve product quality and performance. Analyze and interpret metallurgical data to provide technical recommendations. Develop and implement metallurgical testing protocols and procedures. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, production, and quality assurance, to resolve technical issues. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior metallurgical technologists and technicians. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. Prepare technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Specific Responsibilities

Utilize equipment such as crushers, mills, flotation cells, and magnetic separators to process minerals.Apply techniques like quantitative evaluation of minerals by scanning electron microscope (QEMSCAN) and mineral liberation analysis (MLA) for process optimization.Conduct experiments to optimize grinding, flotation, and beneficiation processes.Operate and manage high-temperature furnaces, including electric arc furnaces, rotary kilns, and fluidized-bed reactors.Implement techniques such as flash smelting and bath smelting to extract metals from ores.Conduct thermal analysis and modeling to improve process efficiency and metal recovery.Utilize leaching reactors, including in-situ, heap, vat, tank, and autoclave leaching systems.Apply solvent extraction, ion exchange, and electrowinning techniques for metal recovery.Conduct experiments to optimize leaching conditions and metal purification processes.Operate electrolytic cells for metal extraction and refining, including electrowinning and electrorefining systems.Utilize equipment such as electric arc furnaces, induction furnaces, and plasma arc furnaces for electrothermal processes.Conduct electrochemical analysis to optimize electrode reactions and improve metal purity.Implement data acquisition systems to collect and monitor metallurgical process data.Utilize software tools for data analysis, statistical process control, and trend analysis.Ensure accurate and timely data reporting, documentation, and archiving.Develop and maintain databases for metallurgical data management.Apply data-driven approaches to optimize metallurgical processes and improve product quality.Collaborate with IT and data science teams to integrate advanced data analytics and machine learning techniques into metallurgical processes.Progress concepts collaboratively through to design.Oversee the detailed planning, fabrication, construction, and commissioning of bench and pilot scale equipment.Create detailed maintenance schedules for bench and pilot scale equipment.Oversee sample collection and analysis.

Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a metallurgical laboratory environment with experience in management and supervision of a team.Strong knowledge of metallurgical processes, materials characterization, and failure analysis.Proficiency in using metallurgical software and laboratory equipment.Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Experience creating research plans, test plans, and sampling plans.Experience in various methods of construction and fabrication methods as well as various materials of construction.Experience in sampling methodology and data analytics.Proven mentorship skills and the ability to effectively disseminate knowledge to people of all different knowledge and skill levels.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $72.00
