Your Opportunity

Stantec’s landscape architecture practice continues to grow in Kansas City and throughout North America. We are currently looking for a highly motivated Senior Landscape Architect (part time – 20 hours/week) for our Downtown Overland Park, KS office location who is passionate about design and has expertise in master planning and landscape architecture with interest in expanding our influence in the market with a multidisciplinary team. Top candidates will have excellent graphic communications skills, project technical experience, be highly organized, and work collaboratively and independently on projects through all phases. 

You will have the opportunity to plan and design public and private projects locally, nationally, and internationally across a range of scales and uses including civic spaces, streetscapes, outdoor recreation venues, parks, residential, and institutional developments, and more. You will build new relationships with some of our more than 250 landscape architects’ firm wide, be mentored under experienced landscape architects, and work in a casual environment with clients and teams through all phases of design.

Your Key Responsibilities Collaborate with project partners, and clients to enhance our group’s production on all things related to landscape architecture Develop preliminary designs, support plan production, and develop design renderings, utilizing a range of tools from AutoCAD to Photoshop to Lumion and other software Effectively communicate with Project Managers and team collaborators to meet project deadlines Assist the project team in site analysis, site planning, conceptual design, final design, and preparation of construction plans for a variety of landscape architecture project types, as well as participate in creation of 3D graphics and technical documents. Use knowledge of the general concepts of landscape design including site analysis, project theming, schematic design, and design development. Assist the project team with the preparation of project documentation during all phases of design, such as project graphics and exhibits, site grading, paving designs, walls, structures, site lighting, planting design, and construction observation. Develop technical skills and assists the project team with drawings and drafting in the creative design process.  Support construction administration on projects by attending site visits and/or construction meetings and assisting in preparing sketches or drawing revisions and photography. Assist in the development of a design through hand graphic sketches, electronic models, diagrams, video flythroughs, and other visual formats. Perform due diligence and research on projects as required to provide the background information to start new projects. Develop software skills utilizing relevant programs to assist with preparation of simple exhibits to complex working drawings. Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. Your Capabilities and Credentials The successful candidate will have experience working in SketchUp, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, digital modeling software, ArcGIS and other related programs, as projects require.  Familiarity with Lumion, Enscape, Rhino, Revit, Unreal Engine, and other emerging design software a bonus.  Excellent hand graphics are preferred but not required. Excellent communication skills-written and verbal. Good multi-discipline team member with experience collaborating with planers, urban designers, landscape architects, engineers, and architects. Education and Experience Undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited landscape architecture program is required. Must have at least 10 years of landscape architecture experience (may include internship experience) working within a professional design firm. 

Typical casual office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for periods of time. Our Studio is located in the heart of downtown Overland, Park, Kansas. A neighborhood with small-town flavor that has grown into a modern and vast array of nearly 300 locally owned and operated businesses. The area is known as a strong, safe community, focused on great food, the arts, and friendly local businesses lining the walkable streets and close-knit buildings with a variety of living options.
