Northern Trust is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Change Manager to oversee the change management process for our UNIX, Linux, Windows, and VMware environments.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all changes to our IT infrastructure are properly assessed, planned, implemented, and reviewed, minimizing risk and maximizing value to the business.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Change Strategy and Policy:Develop and maintain a comprehensive change management strategy aligned with ITSM frameworks and financial industry best practicesParticipate in the creation and update of change management policies and procedures for all platform teamsAttend and represent all distributed Platform teams changes at the Change Advisory Board (CAB)Attend and represent all distributed Platform teams changes at the Major Events Advisory Board (MEAB)Attend and represent all distributed Platform teams changes at the Weekly Infrastructure Change ReviewChange Request Management:Oversee the entire change lifecycle, from submission to closureReview and classify change requests based on risk, impact, and urgencyEnsure proper documentation of all changes in the ITSM toolRisk Assessment and Mitigation:Conduct thorough risk assessments for proposed changes across all platformsAssist in the development of risk mitigation strategies and rollback plansEnsure compliance with financial industry regulations (e.g., SOX, GDPR, PCI DSS)Change Scheduling and Coordination:Manage the change schedule to minimize disruption to financial operationsCoordinate change windows with business units, considering peak transaction periods, moratoriums and major eventsManage dependencies between changes across different platformsStakeholder Management and Communication:Develop and execute communication plans for all platform changesLiaise with various stakeholders, including platform teams, application owners, and senior managementConduct pre-implementation and post-implementation briefingsChange Implementation Oversight:Monitor change progress and ensure adherence to approved plansMake go/no-go decisions for critical changesCoordinate with platform teams during change executionPost-Implementation Review and Reporting:Conduct post-implementation reviews (PIRs) for significant changesAnalyze change success rates and identify areas for improvementProvide plans for any failed change to ensure that there are no repeat occurrencesCompile and distribute change reports to managementContinuous Improvement:Regularly review and update change management processesReview change trends for templating opportunities and implement templatingImplement automation to streamline change processes where possibleStay updated on best practices for change management in UNIX, Linux, Windows, and VMware environmentsParticipate in creation and follow through on any change health plans as appliesIncident and Problem Management Interface:Coordinate with Incident and Problem Management teams to handle changes resulting from major incidents or recurring issuesCompliance and Audit Support:Maintain comprehensive records of all changes for audit purposesPrepare reports and documentation for internal and external auditsEnsure change processes meet regulatory requirements specific to financial institutionsTraining and Knowledge Transfer:Develop and deliver training programs on change management processesFacilitate knowledge sharing sessions between different platform teamsVendor and Third-Party Management:Coordinate with vendors for changes related to UNIX, Linux, Windows, and VMware systemsEnsure third-party changes adhere to the institution's change management processes


QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field7+ years of experience in IT operations, with at least 5 years focusing on change managementStrong understanding of UNIX, Linux, Windows, and VMware environmentsIn-depth knowledge of ITSM frameworks (e.g., ITIL)Experience with ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow, BMC Remedy)Excellent project management and organizational skillsStrong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesOutstanding communication and interpersonal skills

WORK SCHEDULE

Full-time position, typically Tuesday to Saturday - 3 days a week in the officeMay require occasional evening and weekend work for critical changesOn-call rotation may be required for emergency changes
