Senior Lead Mine Closure/Geotechnical Engineer
**This Opportunity** WSP is currently initiating a search for a part-time Senior Lead Mine Closure/Geotechnical Engineer for our US Mine Water and Environment Group in Denver, CO. This position will provide leadership, technical direction, and training for multidisciplinary closure studies to advance mine closure engineering and environmental subject matter, technical deliverables, and programs so that they are delivered in line with accepted industry and company standards. The Senior Lead Mine Closure/Geotechnical Engineer should bring technical experience and knowledge in geotechnical and civil engineering related to mine closure planning and execution as well as the talents, training, enthusiasm, strong communication skills and solutions-oriented focus to work as a valued and respected leader of our multidisciplinary closure team as we tackle some of the world’s most challenging environmental and mine life cycle problems by delivering relevant and cost-effective solutions to WSP’s global mining clients. **Your Impact** + Manage large and complex mine closure engineering projects by providing strategic leadership to technical discipline leaders as well as by offering direction and technical expertise, specifically in the areas of mine closure planning and execution, to deliver the project successfully. + Build and enhance a multidisciplinary closure study and design team within WSP based on the unique talents, aspects, risks, and complexity required by a closure study or design. + Provide health and safety leadership in the field and in the office + Support mine waste projects in the role of Senior Lead Geotechnical Engineer. This support would be associated with geotechnical engineering design and/or management of active or legacy tailing storage facilities or other mine waste facilities. Support would also include the development and implementation of operational practices for these facilities with the objective to reduce water management and risks during closure and post-closure. + Be able to define and adapt concurrent closure strategies in operational plans to effectively optimize closure strategies for different facilities and sites. + Lead the preparation of technical scopes of work for high-quality, multidisciplinary proposals, and coordinate the preparation and submission of tender documents. + Support with the execution of WSP mine closure strategy in the US including the growth of the US mine closure integrator team, development of a strong connection between mine closure practitioners within and outside the WSP mining business unit, and support the identification, positioning, and planning for future mine closure opportunities. + Manage the allocation and availability of appropriate technical resources to complete required tasks and manage the interfaces across technical disciplines and business units. + Provide oversite and quality control on projects with the appropriate review and approval of technical deliverables + Mentor junior to mid-level engineers/scientists. + Attend and present at conferences to promote the WSP brand and support development of our closure practice. + Demonstrate leadership in safety and sustainability management across study activities. + Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. + Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. **Who You Are** Required Qualifications + Bachelor's Degree in Mining, Geological, Civil, Geotechnical, or other earth science or engineering technical related disciplines. + 15 years of relevant post-education professional experience in engineering or earth science with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience related to mine closure planning, design and execution, mainly in geotechnical engineering design related to mine waste facilities. At least 10 years of this experience should be in a consulting environment + Demonstrated significant experience and provable success in leading large and multidisciplinary mine closure studies and designs. + Demonstrated experience in presenting complex information and recommendations to project client’s teams. + Significant knowledge of mining phase project definitions and scopes from planning and design, construction, operations, closure, and post-closure. + Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members. + Independent thinker able to develop innovative ideas and promote environmentally sustainable engineering solutions. + Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with employees effectively, persuasively, and tactfully at all levels of the organization. + A commitment to diversity, environment, health, safety, and society. + Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment. + Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by our client’s and WSP's health, safety, environmental, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. + Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs. + Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. **Preferred Qualifications** + Master’s Degree or higher in any engineering or environmental science discipline. + Essential Licenses (e.g., PE, PG) as applicable and/or enhancing credentials and certifications. + Strong experience in managing the review and approval of documents and discipline-specific deliverables, certifications, processes, and plans in a multi-project environment. **Employment type** + Part-time (24 hours a week) WSP Benefits: WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits focused on a providing health and financial stability throughout the employee’s career. Compensation: Expected Salary (Colorado only): $66,731 - $111,609 (prorates amounts for PT 24) WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
