Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the chair. Essential Job Functions 1. Performs an equivalent of thirty teaching load credits (TLC) for the combined fall and spring semesters; reduction of teaching load through reassignment of duties is possible under certain circumstances.
2. May conduct supplemental instructional activities such as independent studies, internships, and advising. Non-Essential Job Functions 1. Provides services to the university and the profession and engages in research/scholarly/creative activities.
2. May supervise the work of student and/or graduate assistants.
3. May serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
4. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

1. Knowledge and practical experience in the field in which the individual will be teaching.
2. Ability to effectively teach undergraduate and/or graduate students.
3. Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment.

5. Ability to work effectively and patiently with students. Physical Demands Required Education Terminal degree in the field in which the individual will be teaching is required. ABD candidates may be considered if Ph.D. is earned prior to start date. Required Experience and Training Practical experience sufficient to teach at a university level, through teaching or profession, is required. Austin State University, a member of The University of Texas System, seeks applicants for a nine-month Senior Lecturer (K-12 Educational Leadership) to join both the Online Master’s in Educational Leadership program (M.Ed.) and the Online Doctorate in Educational Leadership program (Ed.D.) in the Department of Human Services and Educational Leadership, a unit within the James I. Perkins College of Education.

Through this search, we seek a colleague who will contribute to the two programs above through exemplary teaching, mentoring, service, and scholarship, broadly defined. The successful candidate should be an experienced K-12 educational leader who is committed to excellence in K-12 educational leadership, with the clinical ability to prepare future school leaders to meet certification requirements and to successfully lead in a wide range of Texas school settings.

A candidate should meet the following minimum criteria:
1. A terminal degree (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in K-12 Educational Leadership or closely related field is required (ABD candidates may be considered if the doctorate is earned prior to the anticipated start date of 09/01/2025).2. Ability to teach graduate certification courses in both the M.Ed. program and the Ed.D. program.3. Two or more years of K-12 principal experience in Texas K-12 schools with a valid Texas principal certification.

The ideal candidate will meet the following additional criteria:1. Two or more years of K-12 superintendent experience in Texas K-12 schools with a valid Texas superintendent certification.2. Experience with doctoral level teaching.3. Experience as a dissertation committee member.4. Experience with online instructional design and delivery.5. Potential to do research with clinical emphasis.

This position may be accomplished remotely, though we welcome the faculty member to become part of the Lumberjack community. Remote appointments will require periodic travel to campus. An indication of an interest in remote employment may be made in the cover letter, but must be made at the time of the short-list Zoom interviews. Remote employment is negotiated and is not guaranteed. Successful applicant must maintain primary residence in the State of Texas.

The teaching schedule for this program will require flexibility on the part of the faculty member since courses will be offered in fall, spring, and summer semesters to accommodate the work schedules of the graduate students, many of whom are higher education employees or K-12 educators and administrators who demonstrate outstanding leadership potential.

The Department: The Department of Human Services and Educational Leadership is located within the Perkins College of Education. The primary purpose of the department is to prepare allied healthcare professionals and educational leaders for public schools/state agencies by way of state-of-the-art facilities, innovative teaching, research, and programming. Undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs within the department are delivered as traditional-residential, as distance-hybrid, or as distance-fully online.
