The U.S. is the largest market for four out of the five Unilever business groups including Beauty & Wellbeing (“B&W”). We are looking for a lawyer with commercial experience to support our North America Health & Wellbeing (“H&W”) business — one of B&W’s global business units and a growth driver for the B&W business group.  In this role, you can unleash your curiosity, challenge ideas, and disrupt processes while you are working with H&W brands including Liquid I.V., Nutrafol, and Olly.   

 

Although the primary focus will be support of H&W, you will also have an opportunity to provide best practices guidance and support to the Procurement Director for B&W’s other global business unit, “Prestige” and support limited ad-hoc matters for Prestige Procurement, as your capacity permits.  
 

As a dedicated resource, you will be an integral part of the Legal Function supporting supply chain, procurement and business operations matters for these businesses.  Critical to your success in this role will be your connection to the business, responsiveness, a can-do attitude and appreciation of the competitive landscape and business context to foster innovative counseling to meet business objectives. 

 
Where this position fits-into the team: 

Part of the Unilever Legal Powerhouse – We have four Legal Powerhouses in Bangalore, Mexico City, Sao Palo and Barcelona. You will sit within the Mexico City Powerhouse team and be a member of the extended Supply Chain Legal team. 

Your work will be supervised by the General Counsel, North America Supply Chain & B&W Global Product Supply, supporting supply chain, procurement and operations matters relating to H&W and Prestige businesses.  

Integral part of the Unilever’s Legal Function – a global operation consisting of approximately 400 lawyers and specialists 

 

Your Key Responsibilities: 

Partner directly with brand and procurement teams on business operations contracts, such as procurement of raw materials, packaging materials, finished products, transportation services, fulfillment logistics services, quality and service level agreements and other supply chain and operations matters. 

Manage and negotiate high-volume and complex commercial agreements. 

Liaise with brand on a day-to-day basis for additional information and alignment as necessary  

Collaborate with cross-functional teams as needed to support your work. 

Regularly track ongoing projects to present to legal management ensuring tracking system is up to date daily; document fully executed agreements in our system. 

Counsel on contractual inquiries and potential compensation claims in the event of non-compliances (current terms, termination rights, modification of terms, party obligations, remedies, etc.). 

Communicate and collaborate regularly and effectively with the legal team and business partners to anticipate and solve problems before they occur. 

Required Skills and Experience: 

Qualified lawyer with at least 5 years of post-law degree experience, including deep experience in negotiation and drafting of complex commercial contracts in English. 

Proficient in English with ability to fluently and organically communicate (in English).  

Experience with negotiating U.S. contracts for U.S. based clients. 

Understanding of the U.S. legal system. 

Knowledge of and ability to issue spot complex legal issues, including contractual terms that raise resilience, financial or value leakage risks. 

Experience with managing high volume work and multiple stakeholders. 

Flexibility, maturity, self-confidence, and enthusiasm with strong interpersonal skills. 

Great communication and organizational skills, with attention to detail, speed and accuracy. 

Ability to understand and adapt to the work culture and standard communication style within US based teams. 

Willingness and drive for problem solving and process excellence, and for adopting new legal technologies to drive efficiencies. 

Ability to prioritize and switch between multiple tasks. 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint Proficient in Microsoft Word; experience in using AI technology tools a plus.
