About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to serve as a trusted legal advisor and business partner across various market functions. This role is more than just providing legal advice. It involves driving change, shaping strategies, and supporting key business initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have broad legal experience spanning multiple practice areas (such as corporate transactions, M&A, contentious, regulatory, and commercial) and a customer-centric approach to problem-solving. Prior in-house experience is preferred, particularly with exposure to regulatory communications.

Roles and Responsibilities

Legal advisory & support

Provide customer-centric and commercially sound legal advice across different business areas, including product development, operations, marketing, distribution, and employment.Support strategic projects and initiatives to ensure legal and regulatory compliance, mitigate risks, and enhance operational efficiency.Review, and draft contracts, including policy contracts, distribution agreements, service agreements, and marketing materials.Provide legal support on day-to-day operational matters, ensuring compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations.

Regulatory

Support communications and engagement with regulators including the Insurance Authority, the Securities and Futures Commission, the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority, and the Monetary Authority of Macao.Provide guidance to internal teams on regulatory risks and requirements, ensuring alignment with applicable laws and regulations.

Contentious

Manage disputes and litigation, including working with external counsel where needed.Handle, and mitigate legal risks related to policyholder claims, coverage disputes, and customer complaints.

Minimum Job Requirements:

University graduates in Accountancy, Law, Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or Information Systems and other relevant academic background.Minimum of 5 years of experience of audit, paralegal or investigative workProficient in English and Chinese, verbally and in writing, with the ability to present investigation findings in a clear and concise manner.Prior experience in Commercial Crimes Bureau, Independent Commission Against Corruption, Big 4 forensic investigations unit, law firms, financial institutions or similar capacity preferred.Strong understanding of insurance and legislative/regulatory requirements preferred.Knowledge with data analytics and other software such as MS Office, intermediate knowledge on IT is an advantage.The maturity and authority necessary to deal with agents, senior management and sensitive issues.Ability to work under pressure and meet milestones within time, cost and quality constraints.Self-confident, self-motivated and good interpersonal skills.
