Location: Industrial Ecopark at Salaberry-de-Valleyfield (100% On-Site). Employees must be able to commute to and from the Valleyfield facility independently.
Work schedule: The Work schedule may involve working during the evenings and on the weekends.
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, organizes daily operations of an area related to the acquisition and binding of library materials. Organizes, distributes and verifies the work of others, and participates in their training. Resolves problems. Locates and retrieves records from bibliographic databases. Enters, verifies, updates and maintains records.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Organizes the daily operations of an area involved in acquisition or binding of library materials. Organizes, distributes and verifies the work of others, and participates in their training. Acts as resource person and resolves problems. Participates in the development of the area’s procedures and work methods.
Receives, unpacks, sorts and verifies library materials against documentation. Identifies incorrect or damaged materials. Verifies and forwards invoices for payment.
Processes materials by applying stamps, labels, bar codes, and security strips. Routes materials to appropriate location.
Generates and follows up on claims for library materials. Composes related correspondence.
Locates and retrieves records from bibliographic databases.
Selects commercial binders and verifies work completed. Performs in-house binding of materials. Verifies, prepares, packages, and confirms dispatch and receipt of materials for binding.
Enters, verifies, updates, and maintains records related to the activities of unit.
Compiles statistics and completes various forms.
Locates, collects, sorts and shelves library materials. Participates in inventory, shelf reading, and collection shifting projects as required. Performs searches for library materials. Forwards damaged items for repair or performs routine mending.
Provides information concerning general library policies and procedures and the location of library resources. Assists users in use of equipment.
Types routine documents such as form letters, labels and forms.
Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies in area of responsibility. Performs minor maintenance of equipment. Arranges for repairs and servicing.
Uses equipment such a typewriter, computer, binding machines, photocopier and fax machine.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
Minimum three (3) years related experience or Library Technician diploma. Bachelor’s degree or higher (desired). Knowledge of library policies, procedures and circulation services. Ability to understand bibliographic records and to use online searching protocols. Demonstrated ability to work in a computerized environment (ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, Storage or Library Management Systems) (Preferred). Strong experience in Automated Storage Retrieval Systems is an asset. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment. Ability to lift up to 20 kg of boxed materials and to push fully loaded book trucks. Ability to handle and work with dusty library materials. The employee must be able to work in a warehouse type environment which involves long periods of standing, walking, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, and reaching during shifts. Ability to use carts, pallet trucks, dollies, hand trucks, and other material handling equipment. Ability to go up and down stairs (where applicable), tolerate heights (up to 30 feet) and be able to work for periods of time in a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and a humidity of 35%. Adhere to strict safety standards. English, spoken and written. French spoken is an asset. McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # (3) on a scale of 0-4.
