Senior M&P Engineer, Composites

General Summary:

Senior MP Engineer with expertise in composites and bonding such as materials, fabrication, curing reology, secondary bonding, repair techniques, non-destructive inspection, finishing, test methods, certification methodology, statistical analysis, and project direction.

This is aContingent positionwith our company (1-year or longer)

Duties Responsibilities:

1. Creates, maintains, interprets, and applies MP specifications

2. Reviews and approves engineering drawings plus composite design technology

3. Creates FAA material qualification/equivalency test plans and test results reports

4. Directs material qualification/equivalency test programs

5. Performs statistical analysis of data from material test programs to generate design allowables or determine material equivalence

6. Supports Material Review Board (MRB) actions for MP discrepancies

7. Supports composite fabrication suppliers, test houses, Procurement, and in-service aircraft

8. Interacts with suppliers of parts, assemblies, and materials

9. Travels as required for MP issues

Education, Work Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:

1. BS and/or MS Mechanical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering

Knowledge, Skills Abilities:

1. Strong technical writing skills for specifications, standards, test plans and test results reports.

2. Excellent listening, written and oral communication skills.

3. Proficient computer skills with MS Office, CMH‑STATS, HYTEQ, and SAP.

4. Proficient at interrogating 3D engineering models in CATIA V5 for details and assemblies.

5. Proficient at applying MP requirements on engineering drawings for composite and hybrid composite-metallic structures. Knowledge of other MP specialties (metallics, sealants, finishes, paints, etc.) is a plus.

6. Ability to comprehend and apply FAA regulations, technical guidance and requirements for composites and bonded structures during type certification and production phases of an aircraft program.

7. Ability to perform statistical analysis of data from material qualification test programs and generates design allowables and material specification values.

8. Experience at interfacing with the FAA Certification Branch (CB) and Certificate Management Section (CMS) organizations is a plus.

9. Current or prior FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) for Non-Metallic and/or Metallic MP is a major plus.

10. Knowledge of non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques used on composite materials and structure is a plus.

11. Knowledge of MRB actions for MP discrepancies. Prior MRB authority is a plus.

12. Knowledge of physical testing and mechanical testing of composite materials and structure is a plus.

13. Ability to mentor and/or lead less experienced engineers and technicians.

Physical Requirements:

1. Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.

2. Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.

3. Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).

4. Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.

5. Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.

6. Effectively communicate in Business English language.

7. Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.

8. Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided “reach assistance technology”
